Just wondering I submitted some names for Rick Latonas newsletter and some of my names were a little bit better and cheaper than his, and obviously, not interested rejected, but everytime I get his newsletter I see this names like 24KGOLD.COM for like $50K etc.. and then I see like these domains are selling fast etc.. but the whois never changes hands so I just want to see what others think, I am not bashing, just creative discussion for all you RL fans.

I subscribe to a good handful of newsletters and most are pretty similar with high prices and a few deals that slip in once in a while, there are a few that have lower pricing and I have bought quite a few from those, I created my own template about a year ago as I got a couple of domains that would be perfect for an email list but never got around to deciding if I should actually start it up.

Same here gemstar, I submitted some of my 1996 registers, and was declined as if my domains were garbage, then I get the newsletter, and there are much worse off names for about 4-10x the price I was submitting for... just wondering if it was a me thing, guess not. friends nor foes.

Suggestion - check the Whois of the domains whose prices don't seem to make sense.

I did have one accepted in the latest auction but submitted dozens of my best domains for the newsletter and all were rejected.

The prices in the letter sometimes seem to be elevated but likewise there are a considerable number of quality domains.

I have received the newsletter in the past, and in my opinion most of the domains are

1.) Not that great
2.) Great but totally overpriced.

The business of selling really good one-word .com domains at domainer prices is very close to dying out. Domainer forums are a good example of that. Even a few years ago there were excellent one-word .com names posted for sale or appraisal on forums at least weekly. Today you will go for months without a single good name offered for sale on forums.

That's true, but is probably because their value has shot up so much, meaning you wouldn't necessarily want to (or be able to) find a buyer on a message boards.

Something like Sedo, or being pro-active and seeking out an end user, could produce better results.

It must really suck to run a major newsletter or auction and have to look through all of the garbage submissions.

He has a staff that filters through the submissions, as he has IT group outsourced out of the Philiphines from what I remember reading out of the newsletter, also has a company that does mini sites for $200 min each, hard to make your money back via PPC maybe take 3 years the way PPC rates have been going. I just feel Rick Latona isn't the hero he portrays himself to be, not trying to knock him down, but seems more of an opportunist.......

I remember that ConsumptionJunction site he used to be in on. It had dead bodies, accidents, murders, animal cruelty, etc... Really nasty stuff.

I guess RL's domain prices in his newsletter just reflect one enduring truth about domain prices:

Domain prices are only ever in the eye of the beholder.

There's no such thing as a verifiable 'fair', 'high', or 'low' price for any domain, imo - at best, only educated guesswork...based on experience, comparisons, maybe a few metrics - and, most of all, what someone will pay for it.

I love it when I read domainers saying '$xxx, xxx for abcde domain? - A STEAL!'......Or, they say: '$xxxx for THAT domain? Paid far too much!'

Truth is, no one can ever tell if it was a steal of a buy for the buyer - or, a fantastically high price for the seller - until, sometime in the future, the buyer makes a decent ROI, or doesn't. That's the only measure, in the end....Same goes for a $xxx domain, or a hand reg, you might have bought.

So, Rick's asking prices aren't high - or low. They're just what he hopes to get. The market will either agree - and buy at the price - or it won't agree, and they go unsold.

It was ever thus.

- me - thinks he lends the buyer money to make the purchase, in some instances, and keeps his name as the whois info until he gets paid in full (purchase price + interest on the loan) :santa:

Great post DomainTalker :bingo: sounds spot on to me , We all see examples of this on a daily basis whether it is in the drops, sedo, afternic or posted on dnjournal each week.

mind you...it's still nice to discuss and hear other peoples opinions when a domain sells for alot.

ps - according to his website, Rick does'nt decide the price on the names in his newsletters

off his website: Rule #1 - You supply the price, we do not appraise domain names.

Note: Emails without prices will be deleted.
