Guys,

are all geo tv domains worth good money? for example, how would you compare delhi.tv with something like wyoming.tv ?

i think you can further categorize geographical domain names into

city names e.g. miami.tv
region names e.g. midwest.tv
county names
state names
country names
tourist spot names

I wouldnt say ALL Geo names are worth good money. Big difference between owning Chicago.tv and owning a little town of 500 people in .tv. Big cities, countries, etc will have value just like they do in most of the major extensions.

It all depends on only one thing, the renewal price compared to the GEO involved. A large country .tv for $1,000 renewal can be an excellent reg. Same goes for a small city for non-premium, but dallas.tv for 30k a year (still available) is not worth it. In my opinion all reasonable priced GEO's are all regged and gone. The ones remaining will also go, but straight to end users.

Some geos are worth more than others but I would say as a niche, geos are recognizable and "hit home" with people from the area of the domain.

There are plenty of other niches where you can waste your money but geos are a bit safer play in my opinion.

I have boca.tv listed on a thread here and have an offer of $250 on it. So, right now, current market value of boca.tv is $250 (and it's a $100 premium renewal)

I saw Seychelles.tv was available when the premium list was released for $350/year or something like that, but didn't have the money to get it. Was that worth the the fee?

who decides the renewal cost for each .tv domain name? and where can you go to find that cost for any domanis you own?

If the method I read at namepros is reliable e.g. http://www.enomcentral.com/auctions/dotTV.asp?domain=china.tv
then someone secured a bargain for this Geo at $25.

UK.TV had a 2001 asking price of $50K but is revealed at $10 ...

Snippet from July 2001 TV newsletter:
====================================================
.tv domains command premium prices
We've registered some great premium words in the last couple months. The prices paid speak to the ongoing value .tv domain names retain. Recent registrations include:
casino.tv - $250,000
uk.tv - $50,000
apartments.tv - $25,000
community.tv - $25,000
eutv - $15,000
mail.tv - $10,000
====================================================
?????????????????

Perhaps someone can explain this and how it might relate to those recent discussions about potential premium price changes.

what would be "general" price guidlines for populations of cities?

1 - 10,000
10,000 - 50,000
50,000 - 100,000
100,000 and up

thanks

IIMHO 250,000 is min in the metro area or you better live 20 miles from the city. Otherwise, not worth reg fee unless you plan to flip to a real estate agent.

And before everyone jumps on me. I run a national service. 500K-1 million members (not vistors, not uniques) - name, address, phone.

And I'm telling you, I can't make it work unless the city has more than 250K in the metro area or I live in that city.

And you can say I'm wrong. Enough people tell me that on a daily basis. IE My wife.

For example, I bought Bethesda.tv which was 50,000 people. But I live in Northern Virginia. Also have Ashburn.tv (90,000), Centreville.TV (50,000), Chantilly.TV (50,000), and Tysons.tv.

Also have some Maryland, but we have an office in Baltimore.

Tourists destinations at any pop are good, provided they have lots of hotels.

Since you have bought several US city and US city+state .TVs, I have a few questions for you (If you are willing to teach me and few others).
Would a city+state.TV over 250,000 be worth more than a reg fee?
What if the overture is lower than a city+state that has a lower population than the one in mind?
What if city+state turns out to be a long name (hard to type)?
Thank you localexpert.

Teach implies knowledge and wisdom, I'm just telling you my opinion

Would a city+state.TV over 250,000 be worth more than a reg fee?

yes, however you may have to wait until another end user enters the market. I have not purchased every city+state.tv out there.

What if the overture is lower than a city+state that has a lower population than the one in mind?

the population + overture should both be considered. Considering a city without search results is almost as bad as a city with a small population. Some cities, like the old rust belt, have a bad rep for internet usage. So a city like Canton.TV may be above 250K, but I'm not touching it. A So Cal city with 100K like Palmdale, CA might be better than Canton because of growth and internet usage rates.

What if city+state turns out to be a long name (hard to type)?

Well the residents have to print it when sending a letter, filling out a form....for those residents, they probably have the keystrokes down.

Charleston, SC is great for internet usage. only 100K in the city.

You know a good GEO Woodbridge, VA. I don't know why; but according to my internet usage data, Woodbridge is a top 100 US City on our network.

There is another one in the Chicago area, but I forget which city.

Hmm you got my favorite .TV cities. I've got other such as fairfax.tv, southriding.tv, manassaspark.tv though I have the .com e.g. fairfaxcity.com, manassaspark.com, restoncity.com, herndoncity.com, etc.

Good luck and don't forget to let me know when you plan to sell them LOL.

So you bought FairfaxCity.com and ManassasPark.com from BuyDomains. I had Centreville.com, but then used to buy a GEO .TV. I know where my butter is bread
