Haven't seen one for a year or so, but it looks like someone is back at it. If you get an email something like the one quoted below, the scam is trying to get you to buy appraisals, not buy your domain. Normally the cheapest one on the list is the one owned by the scammer themselves, or they are an affiliate for them if not the owner. names obscured by xxxx to protect the innocent not give advertising to the guilty. This round appears to be initiated by a bot, as all emails I got were for domains starting with "A".
Play around with them all you want if you just want to waste their time, but DON'T fall for paying for an appraisal. If you do, the standard procedure is for them to back out of the "offer" once they've made money off the appraisal.
Dear sir,
we are interested to buy your domain name XXXXXXXXXX.COM and offer= to buy it from you for 70% of the appraised market value. As of now we accept appraisals from either one of the following leading appraisal companies:
sxxxxo.com
pxxxxe.com
mxxxxr.com
axxxxs.com
If you already have an appraisal please forward it to us. As soon as we have received your appraisal we will send you our payment (we use Paypal for amounts less than $2,000 and escrow.com for amounts above $2,000) as well as further instructions on how to complete the transfer of the domain name. We appreciate your business, Thanks, P. Jackson
