I would have thought that it is an extension that would do well in Asia, but the majority of registrations are in the USA (although never sure if that Dofo data is just meaning registrar locations, perhaps).
...

We show the top countries for each extension and this data is based on the registrant country.

Check .OOO Extension Page on Dofo.com.

The top 5 countries are:
  1. USA
  2. Japan
  3. India
  4. China
  5. Russia

Thanks so much Macit.
So when I register a domain name with privacy invoked, do you still have the country though, I guess?
Thanks,
Bob

PS When I look at .page extension, for example, it shows the vast majority are registered in Canada. 83.6 thousand compared to just over 2 thousand in the USA.
https://dofo.com/extensions/page
That seems to me surprising (I have 2 :xf.grin:). That one country without a huge population would register the vast majority of a Google extension that has nothing to do with Canada specifically.
Are you absolutely sure it is not picking up Tucows and subsidiaries registrations that are under privacy, but counting them as Canadian, because Tucows registered here? I know some other studies, not Dofo, that I have seen that seemed to show a lot of Canadian registrations were, when I dug deeper, showing at a Canadian registrar.

PPS Same thing with .dev
https://dofo.com/extensions/dev
Shows Canada top country totally dominating registrations. I do see a not tiny number of .dev in use around here, but can't see we have many more than say the USA. I think in some use-type markets Tucows + subsidiaries and resellers dominates, and they are getting counted as Canadian registrants. If I am wrong, then some huge storey here why Canadians are so dominating some new extension registrations.

Sorry for the misleading data, Bob.
These extensions are managed by Google and because whois privacy is the default on Google managed domain extensions, it says the registrant country is Canada. It's also why we see Panama as one of the top registrant countries for .com and .net.

Our team built it, of course with the valuable feedback of Namepros users (y)

We have been developing it for years.

To see a domain wether has potential one of a clue is to understand the very first intension of the owner of registry, what their goal was and how theyโ€™ve seen their domains, and their ambitions, not on the surface but deeply in mind.

Not worth it. I registered some of the best 3 letter two years ago, when they had that promo, but dropped them all last year.
