Better invest in other extension(s). There are plenty of them:xf.smile:

I sort of agree that the simplicity of the extension should make it more popular than it is. I would have thought that it is an extension that would do well in Asia, but the majority of registrations are in the USA (although never sure if that Dofo data is just meaning registrar locations, perhaps).

There are only 8 NameBio listed sales, and only 2 in last two years. The ones that sold for $$$$+ were numbers. I think there are possibilities for high value words going for high $$$ like the coin and mail sales. That might improve in a longer hold.

There are about 5900 listed for sale, so even as a sell-through rate the number is not encouraging (although stats based on a few sales mean essentially nothing).

There was a big push of reduced prices in .ooo in early summer 2018, resulting in a huge jump in registrations, but that lasted just for a year.

I have only ever personally tried one name ever in TLD, hand registration of a word taken in huge number of TLDs, and that sold for a significant amount even in .xyz, that in my overthinking mind thought might work well with ooo. I did nothing to try to sell it and let it drop at end of its initial registration. I would perhaps try one or two again in a great word, but would not make much of my portfolio in the TLD.

1.ooo.ooo is possibly the only (sub)domain that would look good in this extension. ;)

Actually I had not thought of it as an extension for organizations that use thousand in the name, like
10.ooo It is of course o instead of 0, but still kind of cute.

I love this extension, actually. From a development perspective, has a clean look and super-easy to remember. Have held a handful since the .ooo inception.

But the reality is, since 2014, I have had a grand total of.... wait for it.. 0 inquiries on any them. I think though, it's not so much quality of my names as it is more a novelty extension, and thus awareness is like basically nil. Will continue to hold my names, though renewal costs are a bit expensive than the average new G', they don't burn too much into my expenses.

They just might find the right buyer someday.

one of mine, a bit of a play on taboo:

45% of domainers own at least 5 .ooo domains.

Yes, I think that this, and many other extensions, badly need adoption by a few major businesses or influencers or even organizations use it to get awareness.

Interestingly all of Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft did register and do use for redirection their name in the extension, but they do that in a number of extensions.

I am not doubting that, but wonder how you know, please?
It would be fascinating to know that for all sorts of TLDs actually, like what fraction of domainers own at least a few .xyz.

Or I think I missed your humour, sorry. You mean about half have 5000 or more names. Seems reasonable. Clever. Sorry I was so dense. :xf.eek:

He doesn't know, and he was being facetious.

But yeh I agree, re. fascinating to know for all TLDs what percentage are owned. I'm willing to bet there's a lot of "closet holders".. :) Although it's great to see people are breaking out of the mold more and more now and exploring opportunities that just a few short years ago would have seen as a head shake.

For day-to-day grinders needing constant turnovers for an income, no sales track record in an extension simply cannot justify a more diverse TLD investment spread for them.

I suspect that you are right. I have personally learned of some people who seem 100% .com who actually hold a handful of various other extensions. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me :xf.grin:.

There is no doubt that probability of sales is higher in legacy extensions. A few have success in new extensions with major sales from time to time, but many do not find any success, or just barely enough to cover expenses if that.

I think that the key thing is not to view new gTLDs as one homogenous entity, but rather each has its own nature. For most TLDs, it is the match across the dot that is critical, so the idea of saying an extension is good or bad is not really the relevant thing. It is not like saying .com is better than .net, but rather it is looking at how the word on left and right match (as I know you know very well, with the superb matches you hold in your portfolio including those in your signature).

For this, I find .ooo a bit problematic. It is more like .xyz, in that is not really meant to make a phrase with anything so hard to know what words are good.

My idea for the .ooo name I held and dropped was that maybe .ooo was a good match for the word singularity, as the idea of a singularity point to me seemed similar to .ooo. And the word singularity had sold for almost $3000 in .xyz so I said, hmmm, maybe good in .ooo. But that was too convoluted a way to think, I believe.

I would still take an .ooo at regular registration and renewal price if it was a word in a lot of demand in an area where some end users are experimenting with new extensions.

I think you should buy 100 of them and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the compliment re. superb matches.

I see your point, with choosing what combines well in the .ooo space (or .xyz etc). It's funny, we can come up with all sorts of plausible scenarios where things "fit", and then you get an enduser by-passing all the rules and just hand-regging something that would have never been on our radar to invest in. One of the trickier challenges to investing in niche new G's, I suppose.

Your "singularity" keyword that you held in the .ooo is interesting. The extension consisting of just single o's. Singularity seems to be a good keyword-type overall, a closely related word even.. I sold singular in the .one extension a little over a year ago. Triple-O definitely a love-it or hate-it, and going by the sparse previous NB sales nothing set in stone with what works with it, for sure.
