With all the hype over .WS .TV .CC extensions I think the country extension for the Bahamas could have the best future.

Unfortunately the nic.bs charges $500 a year.

Even so nearly eveything is available.

I'm trying to decide if Politics.BS is worth the $500.00 Reg. fee.

What do you think?

I think it depends on your development plans for it. You shouldn't metion a domain you PLAN on registering, it's a little risky. I did it twice in the past and by the time I made my decision the domains were gone (I'm talking of mere minutes).

Unless I had a firm plan for development for a domain name in the ,BS extension I wouldnt use $500 a year to keep it going.

If you have no development ideas, and want to sell it, i wouldn't count on making much money out of it.

Because of the following factors:

  • They cost $500 to keep annually
  • If it was of any worth to anyone, then it would hav eprobably been taken by now. As with most domain names (unfortunately for most of us)
  • and finally, it costs $60 to legally transfer fully a .uk domain to someone, and .co.uk domains have a huge market, It would probably cost an equal sum as to what you will pay annually for the transfer fee of a .BS domain

Please remember that this is just my opinion. Hope it helps :)

That's a bit steep!

Maybe we should all move to the Bahamas...

But I doubt there's any real value. Sure, there's novelty to something ending with .bs, but they'd be hardly any type in traffic, and you'll need A LOT of traffic to make up the cost of the domain with ad revenue.

In October, through Overture, 13,446 searches were made for bs, so maybe bs.bs would do well, hehe. A zillion different educational related searches, relating to bs degrees, as well.....

Jeeese, so much fun could be had, but for $500 a pop, I'll play elsewhere.

That domain its self is abunch of BS, not at all worth it.

It's actually only $100.00 annually after the inital reg.fee of $500.00.

I like the .bs, and I think it's worth the registration and renewal fees if development plans are what's prompting the purchase... otherwise, it's not worth the time and effort. It's not like going to eNom or GoDaddy to reg a name... it's just a little more complex...

You can find out all you need to know by visiting the nic.bs site.

My opinion is pretty much like the one of ManicGirl. The .BS ccTLD is good for serious development, not something done by domainers, which usually just involves setting up a page or few to catch natural type ins and perhaps some links pointing to it or showing up on a search engine. It's certainly good if you really are into setting up a community website for political discussion and intend to run it yourself, because then the domain name is very well picked and good to remember, which means it can eventually become a site with a name, so to speak.

Now getting a premium domain for a politics website in the gTLDs would mean having to use somewhat imagination to come up with a good name, because the TLDs are already so used. Or if you settle for a more common domain, like for instance politics.com or politicschat.com, you certainly end up with having to invest much more than those 500 bucks for the domain. Thus investing an initial 500$ for politics.bs becomes damn cheap and worth to concider. :) You anyway get a catchy name as well.

So when you assess if it's worth to pay a high registration fee, you need to look at the broader picture, which includes pondering what the cost would be, if you settle for a premium gTLD domain instead. Most likely you realise then that actually that ccTLD will be a better solution. But then again, it's up to how seriously you're into developing it and what your budget is.
