Any traffic from directories?

just wondering if submitting to link directories brings any traffic at all? Does it? or directories are just there to provide backlinks? From my own (small) experience never had any traffic from directories (apart from the odd click once in a blue moon).... do you?

Submitting to directories is more or less worthless.Also many use rel nofollow.You will not earn PR. There are some exeptions but in general I avoid to submit my url to directories.

Directory submission can rather lead to the improvements of search engine rankings than traffic increase! The main purpose for which directory submission is usually performed - backlinks!

it all depends on which directories you submit to and which approve your links. some directories get a lot of traffic while others do not...

guess which ones are more likely to bring you traffic.

Yes, agree. But most likely that after directory submission website rankings will be improved and you may begin to receive traffic from search engines.

you noticed right. About 95% about directories out there, do not provide traffic. But they are still something usefully when it comes about creating backlinks. I own a directory, and in my turn, I receive traffic only from a few other directories.

as a directory owner... I have some free listings they get a lot of traffic from my directory... but it depends on the niche and how many directories you submit to and do you submit the samething to every directory..

for free.... if you submit to 1000-2000 directories for 3-5 hours work and you get backlinks and traffic... I think it is worth doing...

as it is a one time thing per site you own..

I submit all my websites to many directories. It's free so you can't really go wrong. Don't get much traffic from them but it does help in SE rankings (check that they're not nofollow though).

I do submit to as many as possible and also hire submitters from time to time. This is what I thought too, that it is only good for SE really, but it seems that some (very little though) traffic comes from directories too....

is there a reliable way to check for nofollow??

There's some great firefox plugins to check for nofollow automatically

Some directories with DoFollow provide good solid links. Some directories offer deep links which are very good for your seo. Big directories can provide traffic, good niche directories can also provide traffic, maybe a little less than the 10 largest directories, but still interesting.

Within 6 months, a new website with 200 good selected directories and 200 article submissions can get good results in SERPs and PR1-2

Yahoo! Directory and DMOZ are the high traffic directories and will get you traffic. If you have a blog submit to Technorati and BlogCatalog.com. Your best bet is to get traffic from the search engines whether Google, 7Search, or a third tier specialty engine.

I really don't believe it's worhtless!! Being included in some directories made a huge difference for my websites.

The trick is knowing where to submit your URL! Of course if you submit to NoFollow... But if you are wise, you will find a big list of DoFollow directories and submit to them, 20 submissions per day, no more
