Always buy 4L .com from namepros auction because on Godaddy, dropcatch and other auction markets you'll get the same 4LLLL.com higher then namepros because Bidders love to pay much more to auction platforms and interestingly same bidders don't bid more than $100 on namepros on similar 4LLLLs

The whole "bad letters" thing is bullsh*t when you're talking about reselling a 4 letter .com to an end user.

Typically there are 2 scenarios for an end user buyer:

1) The name is pronounceable

or

2) It's the acronym of their business

Bad letters work for both.

Again, this is for end user sales. Not selling random 4 letter .coms to other domainers.

What end user?

You're not taking into account the fact that certain letters (aka the "bad letters" you're talking about) do not appear that much in the English language, especially as the first letter of a word. Therefore, there is less of a chance someone will come around and think of a good company name that includes them.

It's a numbers game and there's certainly math involved. Along with looking for good/popular 2 letter combos like db, tv, or hq, I use this simple English letter frequency chart on Wikipedia before buying any non-pronouncable 4L .com and I highly recommend all other users to do the same: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_frequency

By looking at the chart we can see that the letters V, K, J, X, Q, and Z dont even show up in over 99% of all English words. Investing in a non-pronounceable 4L .com that contains them is not a smart strategy. Actually, its not strategic at all. That's why we see random trash 4Ls being sold for less than $100 even though they've bene registered since 2006, 2007, 2008, etc. They're constantly in a state of liquidation - It's cause nobody in the business world has come up with a catchy name that includes a word that starts with them.

The mathematical odds simply arent there. You might have to wait 30+ years before someone finally comes up with something and is willing to pay up. The renewal fee isn't worth the trouble IMO - you're losing money at some point.

Hi

10 years from now, bad letters will be selling for $300 or more, to other domainers.
just like 20 years ago, when bad 3 letter com were selling for $300 > $500.
today such names are selling for 5 figures.

unless domains go extinct, profits can be made off newbies that will enter the game 20 years from now.

sorry newbies :)

imo...

Do you think its a good idea to buy an unpronounceable name for $200 as someone with a low budget like $500?

unpronounceable name
Hi

being unpronounceable, doesn't mean it's not valuable.
it always depends on the actual domain in question.

So I buy a bad 4L .com today for $100, pay renewal for 10 years ($150-$200) and can hope to liquidate for a $50 profit at most.....

It's like they're not even an investment in the most basic sense.

Yeah but that depends on letters. Take a look at the letter frequency chart I posted earlier. Try to get 4Ls that contain letters that appear a lot in English in order to increase the mathematical odds an end-user will want it. Good luck.

Hi

let's say i scale that up to 10 domains, for $500 profit

and in the mix or scheme of things, it provides encouragement to keep going
or providing some just in time revenue.

$500 for 10 names, $5000 for 100 names plus any lotto hits in between when someone suddenly needs the acronym for Xavier's bussin' skibidy rizz, which will be 2029's new version of Craigslist!

Looks like someone is asking 15k for that acronym. Maybe they know an Xavier already!

Lol sorry newbies alright... But a lot of us have already been through the mill.

When I started in the domain game it was probably over 8 years ago. And lost quite a nice amount of money along the way.

There's a ton to learn. Sometimes a domain will show a good moz rank. And you backorder before someone else does, only to find out the moz rank was influenced by a ton of spam links. So doing a good bit of homework is important.

Hi

yeah,
most just look at the number of links, without ever checking where each link resides.

The thing about short domains is that they might not mean anything today, but they may become an acronym tomorrow. They're a great cash freezer for patient investors. Think of nfts.com - what did it mean ten years ago, other than a typo of NTFS? What did utxo.com mean a couple years before it sold for 20k? btcc? xrpl? ethx? It's just a handful of examples from just one industry. Multiply it by a number of innovations people unleash every year...
You are right
I purchased RLHF.com for under $500 two years ago. Now, I have received several offers in the five-figure range because RLHF stands for ‘Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback
