Happens often, maybe not in that short of span. People buy the name and put the project on back burner until it expires, or they build on a different name altogether. Probably half my overall end user sales are just landers again.

Whenever I see a domain sell multiple times and for less each time, it's an indicator of one of the following:
  • A niche that was hot, but the window is closing and the trend is fizzling out (no more demand)
  • A reseller paid too much too soon and couldn't find a buyer in time, so they let it go cheap to try and recoup some of their investment (Renewals stacking or hardship caused them to liquidate for whatever they could get)
  • It was a manipulated sales report with fake receipts to try and create the illusion of value before actually selling it later (Generally identified by the whois never changing hands and remaining on a lander)
  • Start-up lost in their funding round and was no longer able to afford to develop their business (Leading to liquidation)
Further research would be needed to determine which of the above applies in that case.
