I am having a huge issue with my laptop..and can't pin-point what the problem is..Let me explain the situation...

about a month ago when moving my laptop from my lap to the table, the screen would go blank and the activity light would go solid green..When I would go to restart it the screen would stay blank and the activity light would stay static green (no blinking)..soon after it started doing that I noticed my power chord had a small hole in it and I could see the silver wire's sticking out of it. Sometimes the battery would charge - sometimes it wouldn't. If the battery charge went out I could jiggle the power input in the back and battery charge would come back. I thought this may be the problem but still..the laptop does run if the battery has power or the wall is giving power..and the battery does charge (Although the charge does not last nearly as long as when I first got the laptop a year ago). So I think this could not be what is causing it to randomly give me a blank screen..

Next, I thought the possibilty of it being a fan and maybe some sort of over heating issue..I took all the screws out of the bottom, the battery and hard drive, and still couldn't get the back cover off (there appeared to be 2 screws under the monitor which I have no idea how to get off)

So I went and bought some keyboard cleaner..and lightly sprayed it in the fan while the computer was running to try and remove any possible dust buildup that could be causing the issue...That seamed like it fixed it at first..but a couple days later its back to square 1..

Overall, I have a Dell laptop that used to work like a charm, now it will boot up a blank screen and the activity light will stay static green, and occasionally..boot and load winXP with no problem. When it does load winXP sometimes when I move it from my lap to the table the screen will go blank and the activity light will stay static green..Or, it will just shut off completely!

Any idea's what could be causing this and how to fix it?? I'm so confused and dont even know what to try anymore..gosh, that was alot of typing! thanks in advance

ALSO]: I am giving NP$ if you can help!

Did you check the HD and other components for faulty/loosely attached cables?. I had a laptop with the same symptoms -although computer problems are pretty much like health issues, similar symptoms could have completely different causes- and I fixed it by replacing the HD connector. A bad battery could be the culprit too.

thanks for the response. How much do HD connectors run for?..I was unable to get the back cover off so I am unable to check other connections >:(

I removed all screws from the back..and the battery and HD..but it looks like there are 2 screws under the screen..do I have to take the screen off or what must I do to get them off? Thanks again

HD cables arn't that expensive, maybe a few bucks. Make sure it's completely secure, also check the monitor wireing. I am not a laptop builder/person but I have built many tower servers and home desktops.

Possibly it's one of the 2, but not being able to see what your saying may make it difficult for me to understand the exact issues.
