Hi,
I need a domain for my website and it belongs to buydomains.com. Their price is a little bit higher than I thought.
If anyone of you have ever bought a domain from them, I would like to know how the negotiation went. Any recommmendations are welcome.
And I also found the name is for sale at sedo at a relatively lower price (minimal price) than what they ask for on their own site. But when the negotiation starts, surely they will ask for more than that. So should I go with sedo or should I contact them directly?
Thank you for your input.

I'd advise the Sedo route, IMHO ... made a couple of inquiries months ago for a domain name that they owned and never heard a word back from them! :|

C'est la vie! :snaphappy:

The Sedo listing could be from a previous seller so be careful.

I don't know if BD routinely goes through each of their new reg's and checks those things. I presume they don't because it would be such a huge task.

I'd agree with Jeff - use Sedo first but be careful about it.

BD isn't know for negotiating directly. Usually they hold out for their listed price or send you walking.

I heard only negative things about them. I heard that when they have a fixed price, and you agree to buy it for that price, they'll reply with triple their listed price, or more. That's not good business. Gives me the impression that they are just "undecided" - or selfish.

I've very much enjoyed my experience with Buydomains.com. Call them and ask for Lindsey Clarke. She's been great to work with and she'll get you their best price (which may or may not, however, be more than you are willing to spend).

Good luck!

BD is a friggen ripoff. I wanted to buy some domain from them a year and a half ago, and they said they'd sell it for $988. I didn't have the money then, so I took a raincheck. The domain is still listed for sale today, is getting even LESS traffic, and is losing interest and they hiked the price up to $6,000.

Then they sent me a cute email saying "oh, remember it's listed for sale for $6,000 now!" and I sent them an email back saying "Uhhh... yeah, I'm pretty sure I don't want to want to buy a domain for 6 times what I was quoted for it not too long ago when it's losing value" (the domain is related to a topic which is certainly not gaining any popularity right now.) Then after I sent that one, I got a stupid what-looked-like an auto-generated reply saying something to the lines of "Ooooh come buy it! It' sonly $6,000.00"

I emailed them saying I'd buy it for $988, which is STILL high considering it's a long .net domain about a topic that's declining in popularity. I was quoted at $988 a year and a half ago and they expect me to pay OVER 6 times that when the domain is actually losing types of value that a webmaster would find most neccisary (popularity, traffic, etc.)?

Excuse my ASCII, but BuyDomains can surf a sheet of plywood up my a** if they keep giving me random prices on both ends of the sides.

That's exactly what I was talking about.

Andy,

Your point is well taken.

Buydomains charges whatever they think they can get for a domain at any given time. They will probably lose your business on the long .net that you aren't going to buy from them, but they've apparently decided to take that risk.

They're out to make the most out of each of their domains (just like most every domainer out here) and they are the sole owner of each of their unique domains. We can question their negotiation method, but they do what works for their business model.

They also don't tend to mind waiting for an end user to come along for their domains. As a non-end-user, I've bought from them rarely when I can get a good deal, but usually their prices are too high. This said, they do seem to make a lot of high dollar sales on their domains, so it must usually be worth their wait.

Andy, call Lindsey if you really want that domain. She'll tell you what is the real lowest price, whatever that may be. You may still be able to get it for your original offer...you never know.

Good luck all,
zesty

I have used buydomains for geez, almost 6 or 7 years and they are great. One of the best actually. They are a little expensive but their service is the best I have ever dealt with. They are not outsourced or anything and they are quick to respond to either phonecalls or e-mails....

I have about 10 domains right now with them and I would honestly have all my domains there if they were not so expensive....

Thank you guys, for all the help.
I started the negotiation at sedo since I want to test the water first without disclose myself.
After several offers and counter-offers, he gave me a final price higher than the BIN price on their website. So I canceled the negotiation and I think I should contact them directly.
Richieboy67, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't want to register any domains at their site but to buy a "premium domain" they listed for sale.
Thanks though.

Their prices will be more at SEDO because of the SEDO fees, go direct to them. They always reply quick to my inquries.

Best of luck with them, they will not sell any domain cheaply. They are one of the parties that bids high buck for domains at SN.

Thanks for pointing out BuyDomains. I needed a good laugh after the last few days at work and definitely got it looking at some of the prices they had listed.
AdventureOfTheSeas.com โ€” for $90,000.00
Dollars4Mail.com โ€” for $56,000.00
HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....

Am no longer looking down on some of my "dog domains" as they could be worth a fortune at buydomains.

Also found a domain I wish I had the $$$ to buy:
Lobotomy.com โ€” for $59,000.00
Maybe I'll just settle for saving up for the procedure instead...
