Well this is my first from this lot but due to alerts here and knowing the name wasnt worth what i sent back to them ($5000 :p ) then i didnt fall for it.

Domain in question Promethazine.info

Heres what i got sent.

From Innovation Group <[email protected]>

Hello,

I saw your domain was listed for sale. Are you still interested in selling?.

Please email me your desired price. Don't ask to make an offer. Just email the desired price.

By the way, did you receive offers from other buyers?

Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Best regards,

Stephen Shapiro, Ph.D.
Owner
Innovation Group

So i sent back price of $5000 as i knew right away SCAM.

Heres what they sent the usual guff.

5,000 USD. Ok.

Do you sell a developed site or domain only? I prefer domain names.

Do you have an independent valuation from industry experts (appraisal)? I
need an appraisal certificate for domain priced in your range. I consider
your name as an investment. In other words I'm going to sell your name later
and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the
future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value
of your domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal
company. Please note that I don't trust free or cheap appraisals.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies
in a forum

http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/42065.htm

Juck check this posting.

After I verify an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or
wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply

I received an e-mail from [email protected] that turned out to be a scam too.

From another forum, I see that he has previously used another e-mail address:

I need to know the lowest price you can accept.

What is your price range: $15,000 or $20,000 or even higher?

Please send it to me via email as soon as possible.

Karl,

Thanks for your interest.

At the moment, I am open to offers on this domain. As you may realise, Eloqua, one of the most successful domain speculators in the world holds the .com of this domain name. With increasing implementation of TV over broadband, I believe this domain could be pretty big.

Hi,

Appraisal scam attempt failed. Abort, Retry, Fail?

That was followed by copy & pastes of three emails that he has sent to other people.

Couldn't resist.

What do they get out of it? Sorry I'm a little lost (newbie talking here)

No one would transfer the name until funds were recieved, so what are they accomplishing?

EDIT: Oh, DUHHH .... they get you to pay for the appraisal .....

I think I just passed Newbie 101-A class! (the A is for Appraisal)

I am assuming the guy is going to charge you for the appraisal, which is where he is making the money. He is not looking to take your domain from you so much as he is trying to get you to pay for an appraisal (from him or his scam business partner). I would further assume if he was interested in your domain name, the appraisal would be a low-ball amount. His hopes would be to get your domain for lower than market value.

No problem. There is plenty to learn here. I have only been here for about a month and have learned tons already.

The scam is they ask for you to get an appraisel on the name. The thing is they point you to where to get appraisel then charge you money to get it done then dont want your name.

I just got the same scam emails. This time the name is Frank Moss, PhD, and still at bonbon.net. I'm so glad I decided to do some research, as the whole thing sounded fishy. This is the first time i've had any interest in my domains either. Oh well.
How do you stop someone like this? what a trip.

Actually, that question is exactly why domainers have to warn each other. Sadly, these scammers are not as dumb as they seem. The sad truth is that I'm pretty sure many have followen for their dirty tricks. If that wasn't true, we wouldn't be seeing them so often. All it takes is one very good domain ill-gotten, out of hundreds or thousands of emails sent out, to make it worth it for these criminals :td:

I need to start replying to them with true end-buyer high asking-prices and end it with :p :

Some moron keeps PMing me about domains I'm selling - standard dumb appraisal scam - he's sent me like 3 of them. You'd think scammers might keep track of who they send this crap to.

from "kevin vane" - email [email protected]
Hi,

I saw you were selling the domain forbloggers.com and was wondering if you still
have it forsale? If so, what are you asking for it?

Do you have an independent valuation from industry experts [appraisal]? The
reason I ask it because I buy, wait a little while and resale it. If I am to
resale it, I would need to be able to make a profit and an appraisal helps me
make that decision.

I've looked around and found that www.appraisalpros.info is a very modest
appraisal service and we both can make a good deal and not get screwed by
underpricing or overpricing it.

If we agree on a price, how do you accept payments? Paypal.com?

Thanks and have a great day,
Kevin

same principle as the lotto scam, they say you won a lot of money, and try to get in touch with you but before you can see the money you need to pay for the delivery/shipping/handling (all sorts of handling the money to you - even escrow services) later you'll learn that there is no money for you at all, but they got you already if you pay for their services of delivering the money to you.

best way to deal: ignore, don't give them any information.
