I saw the reduced .tv price on godaddy this weekend down to $18 and thought I would take advantage of this.

So I spent ages last night picking some, and think I got some real beauties. I made an effort- as always- to pick 1 year not 2. But when I checked my paypal it had billed me for 2 years for all of them. I called them this morning, and was told that it was touch. That they I had two options, either cancel the domains, whereby they would refund the money, or deal with it.

I like the names, and want to keep them. I just don't want to risk cancelling them and waiting for 5 days minimum, which godaddy said I would have to wait. Due you think it is possible to get a refund for one year from them??

hmm, i always thought the 2 year thing was a TV people rule. it would suck if it was a single registrar invention

Seems like from their option to you over the phone it's not possible. I would try emailing them this time to see if they'd refund 1 years reg fee.

Godaddy & some other companies default the reg time to 2 years & leaves it up to you to change it if you so wish.

Maybe in the long term, you might be saving a few $ by registering for more than a year. If you had them at Godaddy for a year, and then wanted to renew them there - you would be paying about $40 per name. At least this time next year, you won't need to shell out a lot more $ to renew them all if you do like the names.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks guys for your input. Alex you are probably right, I hadn't thought of it like that, I doubt George Kostanza would be so upbeat!!!

I think I shall just accept it. I bought some nice names, they include:

EDGBASTON.TV a wealthy part of birmingham and a well known cricket ground
HEADINGLEY.TV a place in Leeds and a well known cricket ground
GRANDDAD.TV

Wow, that name really fits the extension.
The amount of development potential with that name is huge.

Nice names....I was looking at Edgbaston myself yesterday! Should have pulled the trigger on that one. :'(

Cheers Sam, I think there is a lot of potential. If you like cricket, lords.tv is still available, but is a $500 premium. I got headingley and edgbaston both at normal reg. It could be a good idea for a site, which features live cricket match feed/commentary.
As well as local area info, etc etc.

Its a shame that I sold a few of my geos off, like docklands.tv and westhampstead.tv etc. As I have about 40 or so, which would be great if we pooled them together amongst ourselves.

Len, I know what its like, when you waver over a name and then say no. You have tonnes of great names, some of which I have regretted not buying.

Cheers

Ben
