Hello all i hope this is the right place to ask.

Should i register xxxxxandxxxxx.com or xxxxxnxxxxx.com when i want to have and between the words. Which works better? The x´s are just substitute for real words.

With thanks

and, unless the n is incorperated in the brand name

N works best if it's a name that uses an N, like the band name Guns n' Roses. But typically, ppl don't remember the N and just substitute it with and. Had it been me, I'd register the xxxNxxx.com and the xxxANDxxx.com both so any type-ins to one could be forwarded to the other.

Thank you all for the quick responses. And it is then.

Thanks

Like Archangel says, it only ever works with a branded name, Guns n' Roses were already known by that so it became easy for them, anyone else will struggle.

Choose "and" every time.

I have to agree that the "n" is mostly recognizable in a branding.
Here is an example of the "n" being used to brand the name where
as the "and" fits well with the generic full words. Notice how the
"and" with the "R" and the "B" looks somewhat out of place.

R n B
R and B
Rhythm and Blues

When given the chance you would buy all variations and point
everything to your name that gets natural traffic.

As a joke to illustrate the niche ... Here is a really stupid litmus test.
Would the visitor be wearing dress shoes or casual shoes in there
job. Casual shoes get the "N" .... LOL but seriously I think we would
need to know the rest of the name to give you an accurate opinion
in regard to your name. The niche it's self has many variables to
market. Almost a case by case thing.

HERE are a few more NPs opinions.

RhythmAndBlues.co is available

Good Luck

In a case like that you might want to consider using a hyphen...

If I was going to register a domain with either and or n, I would most likely go with and.

And is what I would go with!

I am sure that 'n' will look better because it will be reasonable to shorten your domain in order to make it memorable.

I will use " and ".

I agree with you, "n" will be better in most cases.

Johnson and Johnson uses JNJ.COM Even when people refer to their products, people usually say "JNJ" or 'Johnson "n" Johnson".

Also depends whether you are using letters or a word on either side of the "n" or "and".

E.g. If you business is called "Adam and Smith" your options are:
1. ANS
2. AANDS (doesn't look too good with "and" when it is letters.)
3. ADAMANDSMITH- people could read this as Ad Amands Mith, etc
4. ADAMNSMITH- this again looks bad: A DAMN SMITH!!

So it depends whether of not the "and" or "n" affects the way the name is read.

But overall, I would suggest "n" over "and" as "and" is more likely to affect the way the name is read. e.g. If your business is LUCAS AND ADAM: LUCASANDADAM (could be read as Lucas Andadam), vs LUCASNADAM (looks better).

Each case is unique ... But I am sure you will know what to apply to your name to ensure that the name remains catchy and easy to read and type.

It doesn't matter what you, the owner of the domain, thinks. It goes solely by how it is perceived by the public. And ppl typically associate N and an ampersand as 'and.' If you use N in a domain, BE SURE to get the AND equivalent as well since chances are, you'll lose damn-near ALL of your type-in traffic to the AND domain.

I am sure that 'n' will look better because it will be reasonable to shorten your domain in order to make it memorable.

N does not pass the radio test

.......and

And it never will, however there are a few instances where "n" is appropriate. When it doubt an $8 investment to make sure you cover both is not a bad idea.

Nice discussion.

To solve the issue, I will cover all basis as some are saying that traffic might bleed to the "and" domain. That may be true. So:

If it's a "NAME1 AND NAME2" (Name=Johnson, Adam, etc):

Then reg:

Name1Name2.com
Name1-Name2.com
Name1andName2.com
Name1nName2.com
Name1-and-Name2.com
... etc.

The total cost of regging all the combiantions will be very little anyway. Just to protect yourself from any kind of loss of traffic.

If we are talking Product names, then AND would be suitable.
