Am I trying to sell sh*t?

Hi all,

I realize the headline is slightly provocative, but I'm also slightly confused :)

I recently got interested in the domaining stuff and registered some domains, nothing but fancy, but what I believed to be decent domains for flipping based on some research.

Now I have had some of these domains listed on this forum and also tried selling two of them of Flippa. During this time I haven't gotten a single offer on these platforms (I sold one gambling domain elsewhere, but that is slightly different as I'm quite familiar with the gambling industry and complete newbie when it comes to everything else online). So I was wondering if I could get some feedback.

Are the domains I'm trying to sell crappy or are they overpriced or is there some other issue why no-one is interested?

The sales threads include for an example: https://www.namepros.com/threads/fu...rotype-com-algaebusiness-com-and-more.824310/

and

https://www.namepros.com/threads/massive-cpc-and-good-search-volume-domains-mobilecasinoonline-org-etc.823908/

and

https://www.namepros.com/threads/4-3d-printer-domains-for-sale-49-one-3dprinteraid-com.823695/

The domains are Flippa were AvocadoPasta.com and BuyACOnline.com. I thought especially the first one would have gotten some interest with pretty good search volume (5,400 global exact searches per month) and good CPC according to AdWords.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

After looking at all those domains, I can't see one I'd even pay reg fee for. It's a collection of bad extensions and / or word combinations that don't get used in the real world.

I can agree on some of these, but for an example the very first domain in the first link roboticprosthetic.com: If you google "robotic prosthetic" you can see that the phrase is used for an example in wikipedia article and at ted.com etc and the search returns 108,000 results

Also the domains I had listed at Flippa were: AvocadoPasta.com and BuyACOnline.com.

According to google the first one gets 5,400 searches per month and has CPC over $1. In USA the numbers for that are 2,400 and close to $3.

The second one gets 2,400 searches per month.

People may be searching for avocado pasta recipes, but is anyone actually selling something known as 'avacado pasta'.

'BuyACOnline.com.' has two modifiers - buy and online -that make it basically worthless. One would be bad - unless it's a short and catchy name - two is really bad.

So should I only focus on products that people can buy online?

newbies think that google search volume actually means... that people searched that specific term 5,400 times a month, really!

but in actuality, they probably don't get any type-in visitors to the domain after they register it.

so.... what should that tell you?

imo...

First of all, there isn't a lot of demand for aftermarket domains. It's a tiny market. You'd better own good domains. Not just decent domains, but great domains.

Yes, these names aren't too great. The problem is that I can find domains of similar quality available for reg fee. So why should I even buy from you ? It's as simple as that.
For every domain you register, you should be able to see how a business could be developed around it in the real world.

Thanks for the help. Makes sense. If I had an idea about how to use a domain when registering it, but decide to sell it for some reason, is it usually a good idea to write about the idea when trying to sell the domain? Or does that discourage people who might have had different idea.

Think of all the conceivable reasons someone would want to own 'avacadopasta.com'.

Then attach a dollar figure to that value in each case.

Then determine how likely that person is to give you that amount for that domain name.

Bros, your ideas are not bad, you just need to be patient and keep learning.
I would keep AlgaeBusiness, it could be huge in the future. PM me if you don't know why.

Probably no one buys robotic prosthetics or avocado pasta online.
When I goog "avocado pasta" there are NO advertisers.
So, the actual CPC is $0.

You can buy offline terms, as well.
Like "Seattle roofing" because people will search online before they call offline.
Just think like a small business owner or entrepreneur.
How would domain X help you get more customers, or more revenue?

I wish it was that easy to just register that kind of domain names and sell it for that kind of prices.

Best thing would be to read more and keep yourself updated on market trends, recent sales etc.

Makes sense.

What I think you maybe missing is none of these have commercial value. You must KNOW who is going to buy your domain before you reg it. With the new gTLDs, they could get many other options for $10, why would they buy yours?
