Hey all,

I am a bit suspicious of this email, after this person requested a price on a domain I own, listed at Sedo. He's contacted me before about another business domain, so I know where his interest lies, but with the last domain I think I asked too much.

So here's the email...
--------------------------------------------------------
750 USD. Ok.

Can you provide me with independent valuation (appraisal)? I need such
valuation for name priced in your range. I consider your name as an
investment. In other words I'm going to sell your name later and make a
profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's
very important for you and me to know the current market value of your
domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal
company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent appraisal companies I know and trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum

http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/49057.htm

Juck check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or
wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

I really want to sell this domain :D But, I don't want to pay $70 for nothing either.

Can I just make up an appraisal? :hehe:

Thanks, please help,
-Matt

Anytime a so called investor/reseller is asking the seller to pay for an appraisal something is fishy. I am sure the new buyers of Earth.com (800K) sale did not ask the sellers for an appraisal. The buyers new what they wanted and if they really needed an appraisal, I sure paid for one on their own. Happy to hear you did not get caught in the scam, CompuXP. Hopefully you sell the domain soon, good luck and cheers.

You can tell by the guy's opening line... It is probably the same person who has sent me a bunch of half-arsed attempts at scamming me. His first line in his reply email always restates your asking price, then has "OK" followed by conditions that an independent appraisal must be given...

Don't waste your breathe on this scum...

Forget scam. What about common sense???

Tell the guy to get his own appraisal but your price is your price.

THINK man!

I won't show the contents of your laptop to the FBI if you transfer all your domains over to me.

I goten emails from this same guy as I said before. On the last one he sent me, I replied with my asking price of a million dollars (probably $999,500 overpriced). I got the same canned email back... $1 million. Ok. Can you go lower?....

I had a good chuckle. The guy hasn't contacted me since on any of my domains.

Yes, it is a scam.

What I don't know is how this person (people?) doesn't get tired of doing the same for months now...
