has gotten me thinking. There is a lottery close to where I live that was up to 500 million dollars recently. Besides the fact that I would probably not give a rip about anything but drinking cold frosties on the .fu island, I would love to invest it. And it got me thinking, if money was no object, how you go about your domain name business? Would you invest in two and three letter .coms or would you shoot for a corner on dictionary names? Would you try to set up a registry or broker big deals for yourself?

Again, I would probably set up shop in a nice comfy hammock strung between two trees next to a wet bar on .fu island, but it is an interesting thought.

I would probably buy some premium 3 letter/number names and then develop them.

Again, note the .fu island remarks...

sorry, figured you would have understood my statement.

essentially it means I wouldnt worry about domains with that much money. there are better things in life... and being padlocked to a computer day and night seeking out domain names seems awefully constricting compaired to the life of the Jet Set club.

yep thats for sure...didnt mean to come across sounding crass, sorry.

the domain name business is definately not for the faint of heart. it takes forever and you get the shaft way more than one should. however, if you enjoy it as a hobby first, business second, it really isnt that bad.

If I won that much money, I'm not too sure I'd worry about domains or anything of the sort. Just sounds silly to me. There are plenty of other things I'd do if I became that rich. Domain trading is definitely not one of them. At least, it isn't in the top 50.

First thing I'd do if I won that much money would be to drop my current phone # and get an unlisted one and then change it every 3 to 6 months. Winning that much money isn't as pretty as most people think. It's actually a full time job and more. Every non-profit and scammer will be calling you for a cut of your action since the state makes lottery winners' contact info freely available to money grubbers. If you don't do things correctly, you'll spend the rest of your life answering these calls and making "donations". I'd give no money would go to anyone that asked for it, that's for sure.

LeeRyder, that new Avitar of yours is too funny!

I can think of a few charities that could truly use some aid right now.

I'd buy buydomains.com and their entire portfolio
but I doubt 500 mil is enough.
domains are my main business not my hobby, and I do this because I like it, not just for the money.
