Hi everyone,

Being a newbie, this week I bought 100 domain names from Godaddy. Most of them are to be parked and some are to create 5-10 mini-sites.

My question is: Is it unwise to do everything at Godaddy (Register, Park and Host) or would it be wiser to park at PARKING, FABULOUS or NAMEDRIVE and then Host elsewhere like HOSTGATOR, LUNARPAGES, HOSTMONSTER etc.

My main dought at the moment is were to Host. I“m divided between the 3 above as well as Godaddy.

Your opinions would be greatly apreciated.

Many Regards

I really wouldn't bother with GD hosting...read some reviews and you will see why.

I recently moved all my sites around, I did have them all on one host. But now I pay $30 every 3 months at HostGator (Excellent Service -- Got my first month free with a coupon I found), $30 every 6 months at ResellerZoom for a budget reseller account (Not used for reselling hosting, just for hosting my sites - Again, excellent host), plus I also recently purchased a years worth of hosting at DreamHost for around $70 with a coupon that I found at AdminFusion (WBB10).

Its much better doing it this way. Personally I would go for 2 accounts to begin with and get a third later.

Before picking a host, read reviews at public forums - Don't bother with host review sites as they will tell you the host is good just so you signup through their affiliate links.

Hope this helps! Feel free to PM me if you need any help :)

You can try the webhostingtalk.com to find a good host, although it will take some time. Depending on your budget and expected traffic, you should try to find something that will fit your needs, as well as provide the customer service you require.

Try to start with a small hosting plan that allows for multiple domain addons. Search on the term "overselling" in the forum, so you will have a clearer picture and know what you're getting for. Almost all hosts "oversell" now, try to go for the ones that manages this "overselling" best. :cy:

Just wondering: what are the problems with godaddy hosting?

Park all of the domains at a parking service so they aren't dormant, and choose one for Development you genuinely have an interest in. It always makes a huge difference in a site you actually care about , though you may have a hard time ever parting with it.

I'd find a small reliable reseller account at first that allows multiple add-on domains though you will eventually want and hopefully need a bigger hosting set up eventually.

Godaddy is popular for registration and you can get deals.

NEVER park at Godaddy. You will be making crap money.

Don't host at Godaddy. You can get a much better deal from various companies. The folks at PolurNet are popular here at Namepros and I have an account with them. I have several other account (asmallorange.com another one) but Polurnet offers some nice intro level accounts were you can host multiple domains. The small reseller would work for you.

Good luck.

GoDaddy has what seems to be a good deal:

200GB space, 2,000 GB bandwidth, $25 adwords credit for $15 a month (less if you buy it for a year, and/or use a coupon). Is PolurNet only better because you can host multiple domains on one account?

Space/bandwidth offerings are rarely indicative of the quality of a host; indeed, it is usually inversely related. See http://webhostingjury.com/reviews/Go_Daddy for various reasons why such hosts are not a good idea as mentioned above.

With all due respect, the people there don't seem to know what they are doing, and not all of the posts are about hosting...

One guy complained about his domain expiring, and GoDaddy charging him $80 to get it back. That has nothing to do with hosting, plus his name expired! Someone else left this gem:

"GoDaddy" - should be "Don't GoDaddy"
Yes, it's cheap - and there's a reason...it's awkward to use, glitchy (numerous broken links and other issues)and WORST of all, it's search engine unfriendly.

He blames broken links and his site being poorly SEO-optimized on GoDaddy.

I do want my site to be fast though, is speed an issue at GoDaddy? Thanks for taking the time to view the thread. :)

Thanks for all your advice.

I“ve been going through this and other forums and I“m beggining to incline towards HOSTGATOR for Hosting. I“ve phoned Godaddy on 5 occasions (Registring more domain names) and they were extremely helpfull and patient with me.

I called Hostgator yesterday on 2 occasions and had to wait 15 and 25 to be attended. Being Saturday I can probably understand the delay. They were also very helpfull.

However, I get the feeling that Godaddy has more peaple on the phones. I did“nt have to wait as long.

So I“m gonna do some more research before my final decision. Hope it“s the right one.

Please carry on giving me advice!

All that is is overselling. You will never get anywhere close to storing 200GB of data, or 2TB of bandwidth without getting your account suspended, nor will you ever need it. They're offering the specs of a dedicated server for pennies on the dollar. If all you care about are enormous, unreliable plans, than go search for unlimited hosting on eBay.

I've never dealt with PolurNet, but they are very well perceived here at Namepros. When looking for a web host, don't just look at the specs and prices, but at what their customers think of them. That's how you'll find a decent host.

I don't think that the reviewer was blaming his own broken links on Godaddy. I think that he was referring possibly to broken links in the control panel.

If you want to know more about Godaddy hosting, just do a search over at WHT.

Certainly, they have the power to. See http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=533482 for example

Most of these companies are sure 99% of their customers won't reach close to the actual limits, so the numbers are not really reflective of the true situation. For instance, take servage.net's TOS (http://www.servage.net/show/?menuHeader=4&menuSub=13&page=about_tos):

Bandwidth and Disk Usage:
Customer agrees that bandwidth and disk usage shall not exceed the number of megabytes per month for the Services ordered by Customer on the Order Form and must be fairly distributed over the month. Customers are able to use 70 Gb daily totaling 2100 Gb in a normal 30 day month. A 28 day month provides 1960 Gb transfer and a 31 day month will allow a total of 2170 Gb transfer. Sites that consume over our daily limit on a regular basis period will be disabled and client must look into another Web hosting provider to accommodate those high bandwidth needs. Servage will monitor Customer's bandwidth and disk usage. Servage shall have the right to take corrective action if Customer's bandwidth or disk usage exceeds the Agreed Usage. Such corrective action may include the assessment of additional charges, disconnection or discontinuance of any and all Services, or termination of this Agreement, which actions may be taken is in Servage's sole and absolute discretion. If Servage takes any corrective action under this section, Customer shall not be entitled to a refund of any fees paid in advance prior to such action.

But that does not necessarily make them a bad choice; it really depends on what you're looking for and if you'd rather sacrifice certain features for others.

^ Ditto.

You need to think to yourself, will you use 200GB space? Probably not.

You would be happy with hostgator. Their ticket support responds much quicker than phone support. Usually within 10 minutes.

On a side note, I wouldn't trust webhostingjury too much...they favour their affiliates who pay them more per referral.

Who do you mean by the webhostingjury?

Not really, the reviews are all real. It's only the ads which are affiliate-based, not the webhost rankings. In comparison, webhostingjudge.com for example is completely affiliate-based ranking.
