2 Weeks ago I sold a name on Afternic. Then as usual I switched DNS to Namepros for 5 days. No offer.
I then switched to Afternic yesterday and got an offer on one of my names.
The problem with Afternic is I have to send the offer to the Broker to do the negotiation which would take a while vs I can negotiate the transaction directly here on Namepros lander.

The question is why I did not get any offer when the landing page is Namepros but I get the offer as soon as I switch to Afternic?
- Is it a coincidence?
- What Afternic has on landing page that NP does not have beside the Godaddy name and Phone number?

Hi

landers don’t sell domains
but gobaddy brand may give buyers more trust that the transaction will be completed

imo…

Both of these carry a lot of weight.

So far I sold 1 name from NP lander and I received the money and transferred the name in less than 1 hour.

Well, to me, there is no evidence to support the idea that one sale and one offer out of God knows how many domains, are the result of using the Afternic lander.

If you tested it for at least one month (preferably not during the summer), - say, Sept on NP and Oct on Afternic - the results would be much more accurate in determining which lander performs better.

I did exactly that two years ago and saw no difference, so I switched to NP, where I have much more customization power and better tracking options.

Personally over the last 25ish years I've seen no difference, wherever I point my names is where the majority of the offers arrive whether that is NamePros, Efty, Atom, Saw etc.... I've recently been testing Atom as I hear some people say that even though their domains are pointed to Atom offers are coming in from Afternic and I'm not seeing that on my end all offers are coming in to my Atom white label as expected. Majority of my sales over decades are direct with 0 commissions as very rare I sell through anonymous sources Afternic, Sedo etc... as I don't think it makes much business sense to sell anonymously if in this for the long haul. I'll take a sale wherever it comes from but I'll always favor DNS that points to my offers not coming in anonymously as harder to negotiate when you have no clue who's on the other end of a transaction.

Maybe Afternic brokers talk more professionally and convincing than I would do this myself.
I lately get inquires on UD and after my reply I no longer hear back from them. :xf.laugh:

You could use NamePros Landers to prominently display that the purchase will be through GoDaddy/Afternic (with it delisted there), and then send GoDaddy's checkout link, which has a much lower commission.

Best of both worlds. :)

This information is not only surprising but also very useful. Thanks a lot.

Just get another offer from Afternic this morning.
He sent 2 offers on the same name so hopefully he is serious.

Sent messages and Broker did not answer for days.

Maybe they will act faster if Godaddy will give the Broker 5% of the sale in addition to the salary.
Now they get pay by the hour so they don't care.

I am guessing if a buyer has an account already at GD then they would want to use GD to transact but in some cases buyers have account at other registrars so they can come directly or use whois.I have sold names using namepros landers as afternic brokers have messed up a lot of 5 figure salss which made me.switch to namepros and I wont even touch afternic checkout link as I do not support the rule of exploiting sellers who do not use their landers and charge an extra stupid commission of 10%(part of my decision to never use them again)

I have received a 6 figure offer negotiated from 5 figures on namepros landers but I am not desperate to sell that name as I have the information thanks to namepros landers unlike afternic brothers who will go on holidays and leave a negotiation to go cold .

Even sedo broker contacted me to close a mid 4 figure sale .So afternic isnt bread and butter to me but to most people they are as so they control their emotions 🀣 and slow their sales and can ignore and stall your leads.

In the beginning when afternic wasnt charging extra punishment fee if you dont use them ,I would list my names there but now.I just use namepros landers (Thank you @Bravo)and close usiunf spaceship and now I make the buyers pay all the commission.

GD only wants to keep taking from sellers with their silly boost and all the new funny names they can come up with but some sellers and fan boys livelihood depend solely on them as sellers are in third world countries so even $99 is a sale they cant do without to keep them going.

I hope others can use other platforms like namepros and spaceship and keep more savings in their pocket .

Also moved all my names away from GD.

I think a lot of people stick with Afternic based on the commission scare if not pointed there and registration path sales but honestly I haven't seen much of these sales personally over the years but this is probably due to me always selling/holding for higher priced end user only sales. We've got Namepros and Efty at 0% commission, Atom standard listings at 7.5%, Saw self brokered listings at 9% and at least with Sedo the offers show up in a control panel where you can see the offer instead of a bunch of calls/emails made between a broker/buyer with sellers having zero information who is on the other end of that communication and what was discussed.

I moved all of my domains away from GoDaddy years ago and I'm getting to the point where I might even move my aftermarket listings away from them as well as I've had no trust issues selling domains on my own site for 25ish years with my own business financial accounts and if there was an issue I can route payments anywhere a buyer would like me to. So even though my anonymous sales Afternic/Sedo etc... have been very minimal over the years it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to make it 100% no commission fees going elsewhere as I'm almost there anyway. I've actually ignored third party offers quite a few times and watched them find their way to my own site anyway.

The beauty of doing your own thing is you're slowly building a buyer database, gaining confidence in being able to email/call buyers direct, understanding the thought process of buyers, not working around somebody else's schedule as lot of third parties don't work weekends and I've done some of my highest deals on weekends, etc...

The choice not to list domains with Afternic is reasonable but it will harm sell through rate for the average investor. For the average investor, the registration path is more than half of all sales. As AbdulBasit documented when he removed all his domains from Afternic...

Both number and amount of sales have drastically dropped. But I’m very confident of having some good sales happen on a regular basis. Number of sales will not pick up for sure unless the domains get additional exposure but the amount of sales will pick up soon.

In the end, I would like to say that for now, I’m not going back to Afternic/Sedo and plan to continue using NamePros lander.

Relying on landing pages and whois for sales is choosing to forego sales from people who only buy domains via the registration path.

Personally, I don't use Afternic's landing pages but I would never remove my domains from Afternic given how important it is as a source of sales.

Afternic is really good at generating sales through the registrar path. A lot of buyers don’t even visit the landing page. they see that the domain is available through their registrar and purchase it directly there.

So, removing Afternic would be a bad idea. To be honest, I don’t particularly like listing domains on Afternic either, but in reality, we need them because they bring in additional sales.

That said, top-quality domains are different. They don’t really need Afternic because larger companies and corporate buyers often purchase premium domains through brokers.

In my opinion, low and medium quality domains should be listed on Afternic, while top-quality domains don’t necessarily need to be.

I think this point is spot on as there seems to be a blanket statement made quite a bit by others that if you remove your domains from Afternic you'll lose 50% or more of your sales. I think if you sell domains on the lower end than yes you will lose quite a few registration path sales as cheaper equals quick impulse buys. If you price your domains higher or end user only prices like I've done I don't lose much of anything if I remove them from Afternic as my prices aren't quick decision impulse buys they may need to sit down, turn on the a/c, call the wife or business partner and debate my price.

I have 2 offers last week. One is from Afternic and the other one is from Namepros Lander.
I negotiated with buyer from NP lander and complete the transaction in 24 hours.
The one from Afternic took 7 days because I have to assign the transaction to a Broker.

What Afternic should do is let the me negotiate with the Buyer like DAN, Sedo and NP here.
There is NO GOOD REASON to pass the transaction to a Broker because I don't have DDC (Domain Discount Club) membership there.
Letting the Buyer/Seller deal with each other they will get more sale vs transfer the transaction will delay the process, misleading communication, delay the process and the buyer will have cold feet and walk away,

Am I wrong????
