Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

I just saw a new Afternic blog post in my RSS feed.

Unfortunately, Afternic is still unable to fix the 400 Bad Request error, even after my suggestions one month ago.

Hello @GoDaddy

I have all my domains listed at Afternic with
BIN + Make Offer + LTO

Minimum offer is on Default 100$ or set at various prices based on quality
( mostly 500$ , 1000$ , very few at 5000$)

Yet on Godaddy search Path the majority of my domains are at BIN , with a minimum offer set at 75% of BIN price.
Not only that , when i try to make an offer on one of my domains , i’m redirected to the BIN or LTO option only.

Why?

The same problem affects Afternic's automatic syndication to auctions.godaddy.com.

The seller‑set Minimum Offer is routinely neglected, and you will see a completely different MO value there. Even when MO is set to OFF, and even when MO = BIN (essentially saying: only BIN, no MO).

It has been over 20 days and [email protected] and [email protected] is ignoring two replies from my lawyer.

You (have stated) you sold the name at GoDaddy. You need to be contacting support via [email protected] and NOT phone support or other online support.

Also, >10 days seems unusually long if domain transfer was already confirmed.

Something else must've occurred to foul this all up. Was an Afternic broker involved, perhaps?

Finally, if your(?) lawyer is involved, you may need to wait till the 12th of Never.

@GoDaddy we sold a 4 letter domain for over $2500 in late November.

Oh, crud. I'm going to guess the transfer/sale was being handled by Escrow.com. If so, a whole different ballgame.

Is my hunch correct?

Haven't been able to access afternic.com for a couple days now. Is there any changes/issues I've missed?

Instant edit - Seems it doesn't agree with my VPN. Strange because GD works just fine with it.

Any particular reason you need to access Afternic nowadays? :xf.laugh::xf.laugh::xf.laugh:

Works fine for me through...(have it open now)

 I like to check that my zero views hasn't changed at least once a year.

Seems I have to go to the home page without the VPN then once I'm on I can turn it on and its fine soooo... not sure what that means.

Once in a while I wish I knew how computers and the internet work. For now Ill just have to trust that its magic and wizardry.

We do something similar at NamePros. If you weren’t logged in, you’d have trouble using certain features with a VPN, and some VPNs are blocked entirely.

Well, there isn’t much point to using a public VPN, aside from censorship evasion in certain countries and to change your region (e.g., so you can watch a video that might not otherwise be available in your country). It isn’t going to improve your security or your privacy in a meaningful way. It just lumps you in with a lot of illegitimate traffic at data centers—the kind that websites like Afternic and NamePros endeavor to block.

Thank you for the explanation. Much appreciated 👍.

Hey Paul, can you expand on this... Everyone says to use a VPN these days, at least for banking and financial transactions, but pretty much for everything. Why? Is it really not adding any security?...

Fear sells, particularly in a world where it feels like we don’t have control over our privacy. Most people paying for VPNs don’t really understand what they are, how they work, and what threats they’re designed to mitigate (or, perhaps more importantly here, what threats they don’t mitigate). If your threat model is “persecution by an authoritarian government,” VPNs can be useful in that they can alter what a government might see you doing, although probably not in a way that would keep you out of trouble.

They also have the nasty side effect of making it a lot harder for websites to differentiate your traffic from bots, which is why they tend to be blocked. Sometimes you look like a bot when you use a VPN.

Do Afternic nameservers give you the same commission discount as GD nameservers?

I'm using
ns1.afternic.com, ns2.afternic.com

The homepage says I'm not using GD nameservers.
That's incorrect, indeed, since you are using "GoDaddy aftermarket supported nameservers".

Afternic has numerous bugs, unfortunately.

I stopped reporting bugs after seeing so many go unresolved, and the GoDaddy liaison account fall silent.

But I'll make an exception today.

Afternic suddenly flags Porkbun as ineligible for Fast Transfer on my .org domains. The dashboard shows "Registrar Not Eligible".

I'm always being pushed to open up FT.
Is it safe for 'everyone' to do (ie Newbies like me), and do those FT Names get
any preferential exposure?
