Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

While seeing your own domains in search results may look reassuring, in practice, SEO indexing of landers hasnโ€™t proven to be a meaningful source of leads, and can ultimately harm any marketplace's ability to show up at all.

Are we talking about the problem of duplicate content and how it can hurt the site's crawl budget? There's an easy remedy to this: allow custom descriptions on landers.

Theyโ€™re not banned domains. Itโ€™s like when I start making a site with Wordpress you can choose for the site not to be indexed while youโ€™re working on it. Itโ€™s just not indexed.
When you register a domain you can build its presence by creating content and allowing Google to index it.

But here we aren't talking about 2-3 domains that we are developingโ€”in my case it's about 2,000+ domains that are for sale. They were indexed by Google while for sale via Sedo, Uniregistry, and DAN. You could literally top the SERPs by searching for the domain, sometimes just the keyword even (e.g. for brandables.)

Then GoDaddy took over, forcing DNS changes and an entry into Afternic. I won't discuss how half-baked the platform is compared to what DAN.com was because everyone knows that already. I won't even touch the subject of upselling features such as Boost and now self-brokerage, or the 30% fees if you sell domains while using your own DNS!

GoDaddy has the audacity to tell us what we need and what we don't need, such as Google indexing our own assets, and that is preposterous. It's an easy fix but not their priority. For me, the fix was to pull out all my domains because that was the last straw.

I'm also curious how harm can happen to a domain or marketplace by trying to index a sales lander page properly in search engines. Every domain marketplace except GoDaddy's does this.
It's a fact because GoDaddy says it's a fact. That's all. ;)

That I think there is no strategy behind it at GoDaddy, but it is just ignorance how to configure this. Just like someone who is just starting with Wordpress. Speaking of which:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...requiring-godaddy-to-secure-hosting-services/
"According to the FTC's complaint, GoDaddy had inadequate security practices, lacking multi-factor authentication (MFA), proper software update management, and logging of security events. It also failed to monitor for threats, segment its network, use file integrity monitoring, keep track of and manage its assets, assess risks to its hosting services, or secure service connections to consumer data."

and Godaddy said "We are constantly improving our security capabilities".

Haha. They're one of the world's largest webhosting companies and they couldn't even manage to monitor threats. I guess they were correct in what they said about improving their capabilities. It's not too hard to improve upon security which didn't previously exist.

Dashboard has just gone crazy again, it says to start transfer for some domains already sold previously. I think this is a recurring issue, @GoDaddy please take note

Just simply sign in to your dashboard (the very first screen you see) at Afternic (perhaps only on mobile gives this error ) ? I have seen other people posting about it on X a while back, so quite sure I am not the only one

Yup, I'm also seeing it (on a laptop), or actually two pointless notifications, AWAITING AUTH CODE & AWAITING TRANSFER OWNERSHIP.

edit: fixed now

Atom posted they are being found via Google. It is possible people find domains via Google (even though @GoDaddy found otherwise in the past).. GoDaddy it may be worth re-testing this

Darpan's corporate valuation will skyrocket in the next 3 years. GD would have to spend 1/2 billion+ just to take them out of the picture, as they did with DAN. I sincerely hope they ignore such bids.

Afternic, fix your game. When ready, let us know. For now, it's not worth waiting it out.

You would think it would be cheaper to fix afternic. But they won't.

They could have just slapped an Afternic logo onto the Dan website and called it a day. But NOPE.

They wanted the traffic coming from the parked domains (as well as some of the nifty programming).

Traffic created from a parked name is gold.

and we all would have been thrilled. And making lots of sales. Which means they make money. And not WASTING millions of dollars. Actually use what you bought.

whatever I guess. I told my rep that godaddy despises their customers. And it is true.

Afternic doesn't exist and GoDaddy doesn't care a whit about our domain sales.

I sincerely doubt they'll get any bids, as GD is no longer in that market. They shut down Uni, they shut down Dan and they shut down Afternic (only the base infrastructure to feed domains to GD exists), all at huge losses.

They only thing GD cares about is a) using your domain traffic to funnel in new customers and b) upselling domain investors on clubs and features.

That's why nothing is free at GD - if you don't use their nameservers you pay more, if you don't join their Domain Academy/Discount Domain Club you don't get full services, if you use Boost you pay more, and if you don't use Boost you aren't included in GD searches.

We are no longer their partners in selling domains, we are now their customers.

After the acquisition of DAN, They also disabled the feature to integrate Google Analytics with afternic landers , This feature was available on DAN landers before and we were able to track domains visitors and see some stats !!

So No indexing , No traffic tracking , No proper visibility without boosting , No proper discount without the new upgraded DDC tier ! More NO's coming on the way ... :(
