Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Can someone please tell me the difference between ns1/2 vs ns5/6? Why would I choose one set over the other? Thanks.
All Afternic nameservers will answer with the same IP addresses, so in theory you can use them all.

However, ns1/ns2 have technical issues (called "lame delegation") and Afternic is not going (or not able) to solve these issues.

Best is to use ns5/ns6, then set your lander type from the Dashboard.

Afternic (Godaddy) has the unusual ability to complicate the simplest things. Call it loading a simple page (by DNS issues, or by putting damn stats or useless archives to load before the page, so making a damn simple page taking 10 seconds to load in the best case, or simply making it unable to load).

Call it a landing page, or an internal GD page. Whatever they can complicate, they will do it.

More Afternic legacy, love it <3

To address the lame delegation issues on ns1/ns2 for Afternic customer domains, a potential solution is to remap these nameservers to ns3/ns4 or ns5/ns6. This would allow ns1/ns2 to be exclusively used for NameFind domains (it's currently dual-use). This will improve performance and reliability for Afternic customers.

However, I'm increasingly convinced that Afternic just shouldn't touch their own systems.

I am not even sure how a company does that after amalgamating their NS into one set. They must really work overtime to screw things up.

They're bolding trying to make a Yugo run like a Ferrari, but that doesn't work in the real world.

They should have just kept the Ferrari.

Does anyone know how to to mass-change your Afternic landers?

Right now, mine have all been auto-set by the system to 'Request Price' but I would like to change them to 'Customer Lander - Make Offer' but I see no way to do it. When I change the 'Default Lander Settings' nothing happens to my domains and I can only imagine that setting just affects new domain listings.

A Mass Lander Change option is probably yet another setting that the "brokers have but we don't".

Default settings is only for newly added domains, indeed. For existing domains in your portfolio, you can change lander type with the "Bulk Lander Update" feature, in batches of 1,000.

Regarding nameservers, Afternic Support once told me the following:

โ€œAfternic used to associate nameserver numbers to specific landing pages however since the launch of Afternic 2.0 and our for-sale lander selection options where you can choose the lander page to display within the portfolio section of your account we do not associate different nameserver numbers to specific landers.

We would recommend being pointed to ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com versus those historical nameserversโ€

---

@Future Sensors has pointed out that ns1/ns2 have technical issues.

Everything with Afternic seems to. SMH.

It's tough to get GoDaddy to admit there's a glitch in their systems. They're usually all sunshine and rainbows.

I invite all domain name investors to boycott GD and all its products.

I would like to announce that as of October 15th, I will remove all my domain names listed on AN (over 1000) and transfer 180 domain names registered on GD to another registrar at once.

In this historical period when technological possibilities have reached dizzying levels, instead of solving the problems, they are creating more problems and asking for much more money in return. They have ignored the demands and complaints of their business partners for years and it seems that they will continue with the same indifference.

I think that we will send a strong message with the sharp attitude we will take until GD corrects its toxic and passive-aggressive attitude.

Vote with your feet!

Can someone track on regular basis the number of domains with Afternic nameservers? I expect that they have been losing and will be losing the inventory, but it would be good to actively track it on a weekly basis as a good visual where the company is heading.

They asked me to be able login and see the status of domain transfer, this was probably the only way for them to chk, of course I gave the pin code, cause I trust Afternic staff.
Still this is a one time access, they can't login later!

Could it be that you are confusing things? They asked you for the 6 figure code sent to your cell phone and initiated by them. This is not the same as sharing your 2FA access.

This just ensures a) that the support is talking to the owner of the cell number shown in the account b) that anyone in the support cannot access info/make changes etc. into a client account without being in contact with the owner live.

Wow, sorry you're experiencing this.

There have been so many complaints about Afternic's nonresponsiveness and payment delays.

I too have complaints along similar lines. My pending cases are pretty recent but still concerning. I've sent Afternic emails and reached out via their TA agent message board. No response yet. Nothing at all! If it were DAN, I'd have received my payments by now and/or gotten some kind of response or update after I reached out.

@GoDaddy, what on earth is going on? Please intervene.

Still havenโ€™t received a response of any kind from Afternic Support.

*** 2 domains sold via FT. They were automatically/immediately transferred... The โ€œTransfer is doneโ€ emails havenโ€™t been received. Payouts havenโ€™t been scheduled.

*** 1 pending transfer. Held up by Afternic for days.

*** Domains stuck in review for days.

I donโ€™t understand why things have to be this way.

@GoDaddy, can you please intervene? Iโ€™ve DMed you about this.

If hundreds of domain investors act for the same purpose on the same day, this will cause a serious statistical drop in their system and the charts. This means a big loss of income for GD in the short term and a loss of reputation in the long term.

It is critical that we act in the same direction at the same time as a union.

I am unlikely to use Afternic landers for practical reasons.

If I have a priced domain, I am fine with them in general.

When it comes to make offer domains, I have no interest in @GoDaddy brokers inserting themselves into the middle of every transaction.

I trust myself more than some random broker.

I think I have more knowledge of my domains than the average broker.

I think I have more interest in converting the lead into a sale than the average broker.

Since @GoDaddy removed the self-brokerage system, they really have nothing to offer me on the "make offer" domains.

Many times it was the messaging feature that was able to convert the offer into a sale. That is gone.
