Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Asking users for 2FA codes is insane and a massive security issue.

You have 2FA on the account. The chat agent should be able to see if they are logged in or not. Problem solved.
They asked me to be able login and see the status of domain transfer, this was probably the only way for them to chk, of course I gave the pin code, cause I trust Afternic staff.
Still this is a one time access, they can't login later!

You could send a screen shot or do a screen share / loom video.

Asking a user to give 2FA codes defeats the entire purpose of them and is a security anti pattern. Itโ€™s lazy/incompetence by the devs.

Absolutely.

If they insist on using it for identity verification, as a โ€œsecond security stepโ€ for accounts with 2FA enabled, they should simply ask us to log in from our end, using our 2FA codes ourselves, then they can see or confirm from their end if weโ€™re indeed logged in or not.

If they insist itโ€™s the only way their chat support reps can access 2FA-enabled accounts, as I was told, that tells me their chat support reps are significantly separate from and/or not well integrated with Afternicโ€™s regular support team, systems, and departments. And that gives more incentive to be cautious and concerned.

Afternic Support has been checking 2FA-enabled accounts, viewing details, seeing process statuses, and resolving issues from their end for years. And theyโ€™ve been doing so without asking us to send them our 2FA login codes. So, why canโ€™t these chat reps do the same? What kind of system is Afternic running here?

Zero issues with the support PIN requirement, but the bit about sharing our 2FA login codes with chat reps is ridiculous.

Who has successfully done a transfer from z.com to Afternic?

The transfer seems not to be going through at my end.

You must disable Privacy WHOIS before doing transfer!

Transfer lock is disabled, private whois is disabled, but i always get the same message whenever i try to reinitiate the transfer.

I messaged Z.com about it and it was confirmed that both transfer lock and private whois are disabled.

I think the problem is with Afternic @GoDaddy at this point.

Update: Domain successfully transferred. The confusion is as a result of time zone difference.

Hi @robosapien,

We'll DM you right awayโ€”let's get this sorted out.
Last night I received payment for all 5 domains that were pending. Thank you. Miracles do happen :)

If they going to ask user's 2FA code, then what's the point of using 2FA in the first place?!

Plus, live chat should be integrated into all pages and shouldn't ask any information like name, email etc. and definitely not 2FA since the user already logged in. It should connect the user to the agent directly and rapidly.

These are pretty basic system design approaches developed half century ago.

I had 2 domains in this state, one was expired and deleted already, it somehow migrated from Dan's deleted list.
The second domain is aethereum/./net not sure why it was marked as TM on Dan/AN list previously, maybe here is same some but unsure. Now I chk fast and it redirects to Dan, will have to login and see why this happen.
P.s. I reg it cause Aether is the original word not Ether-eum! I not consider in this case to be TM, Vitalik Grabber Buterin should have think better when branding.

I found out that those 2 (Pending Sync) domains are showing as (Failed Migration) on Dan!

Dynadot does it the right way. They're gonna be a major in the aftermarket.

It doesn't seem like many people are satisfied with "Boost"...

There are also many people moving from Dan to third party landers, and avoiding Afternic (for good reason).
It is slow, there are glitches, there is no proper search, there is no self-brokerage, etc.

Getting rid of Dan.com with no viable alternative makes absolutely no sense for @GoDaddy. It's just driving customers away.

Instead of 15% or 20% of a sale they will be getting 100% of no sale.

I have already started getting GoDaddy/Afternic broker "how much" requests when in comes to make offer domains.

I mean, they are make offer for a reason. There is no use contacting me and asking how much, and not even presenting an actual offer.

Then when I respond with something like I will consider serious offers, I still don't get an offer but just get a "cash offers are very rare" response.

It's a waste of time and resources for everyone.

This was a response after I said I will consider serious offers.

Then even today, another broker followed up on the same lead as if I never responded to the original broker.

"I have many domain names that I'd happily sell for less than their appraised value"

"Great, gimme your list."

There are so many tire-kickers on Afternic it's not funny and it all comes back to the fact that Afternic brokers are NOT working for the seller, they are working for the SALE. The control dynamics are all screwed up and sellers are literally being harassed by brokers who will tell you that a $500 offer in a 1-word domain is "very rare" and "a great deal".

Because ALL that matters to them is the sale.

That is the main reason why Afternic is an unusable (and very dangerous) platform without a self-brokerage option. The seller is essentially being 'played' by a man behind a curtain.

Can someone please tell me the difference between ns1/2 vs ns5/6? Why would I choose one set over the other? Thanks.

I think it's all NS1/2 now, if I'm not mistaken.
