Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

I've barely scratched the surface on this migration process... and I already miss Dan 🙁

I am currently facing an issue; perhaps you can work on that. I sold a domain about two months ago and provided the transfer code, but the domain is still pending transfer. I don't know the reason for this long delay, whether it is due to the buyer or a problem with Afternic. This is certainly a communication issue on your part, so it would be much appreciated if you could work on that.

Ps: this is not a support request, I am just explaining the problem.

You should contact Afternic support for this issue you are having.

So has anyone got an answer on the "will you need to change nameservers after the migration"?

@GoDaddy

This is an incredibly important factor as the Migration FAQ has the wrong subject matter (landers) in the answer field, making it totally useless.

They already mentioned on their FAQs that you don't have to do anything. ns1.dan.com will "point" to Afternic

No they didn't as that reply related entirely to the Dan-like landers on Afternic and never answered anything specifically to do with having to update nameservers. For some reason it strangely addressed people worried about Afternic landers having a different look and feature set than the Dan lander.

Will I have to update my nameservers?

If you’ve been using ns1.dan.com and ns2.dan.com, then don’t worry – once you’re migrated to Afternic, we’ll automatically switch you to Afternic’s Custom Lander. The design will feel familiar to you.

Nowhere in there does it expressly state what you said - you're just reading something into it that simply isn't there. There is not even a simple "No, you will not have to update your nameservers" type of answer - the text is entirely about landers and how you'll be switched to "Afternic’s Custom Lander" and how the "design will feel familiar to you".

Who cares about the new Afternic lander and how familiar it will feel, when the actual question is about whether you have to change nameservers or not? Yes or No? What's next, fashion advice?

The answer is implied but not specifically stated.

Copywriters giving the devs a run for their money 😂

Migrated from Dan yesterday to Afternic
Got only 2 domains on review until 20 minutes ago
Now I got 132 domain on review

Saw it in recent posts and me too I've just discovered that all my listings in AN (all MO custom lander) appear like this when you search them and click make offer on godaddy.com.

In my view, this is very confusing for a potential end user and could deter a potential interest. My domains are certainly not up for auction.

Why they don't just show the normal make offer lander? Anyone know anything about this or it's just another bug?

So yesterday I posted my reasons for unlisting and essentially leaving Afternic. I still need to maintain my portfolio (adds and deletes) and, also, check the portfolio because...... I dont trust..

And today's confirmation that I made the correct choice is: yesterday I had 382 domains. I unlisted ALL 382.

24 hours later I log in to delete the two which I allowed to expire from my registrar and see this:

I deleted the 2 which expired so the total count is 380 now but 1 says "listed".

I try to unlist this one domain

and I get this, as I expect I should

The domain persists its listed status

Clearing cookies, cache, logging in again - nothing works.

Then I realize, I am beta testing for free. Not going to do that.

But reporting it here for others who are sticking with AN.

Then I realize, I am beta testing for free. Not going to do that.

Our beta testing is worse than free. We test, find problems, and report them. Traditionally that information would be used to correct the problems and eliminate the bugs. That part doesn't happen. The beta testing is free and it is wasted.

GoDaddy incorporates one or more of these:

1. Doesn't listen
2. Doesn't care
3. Is unable to fix the problems.

If they are unable to fix the problems, it could be that they hire incompetents on the dev/tech side. Frankly, I doubt that. They hire good people in other areas. I suspect that the platform and the legacy architecture is fundamentally flawed. They are too deep in to replace it, maybe for internal political reasons. And the techs and devs spend their time just trying to keep the platform operating at this beta level.

They have to (very) slowly roll out bulk search. Think about that. Seriously. How stable or robust is a platform that cannot easily support such a useful and fundamental feature?

I would not be surprised if the CEO is unaware of how many basic shortcomings the GD/AN platforms regularly exhibit.

The increasing issues with GoDaddy’s platforms seem to correlate with a decreasing presence of the company on this forum, where loyal customers seek solutions and support.

I may be wrong - but it seems obvious to me that the bolded sentence above means if you do not update your ns1.dan.com nameserver, "then don’t worry – once you’re migrated to Afternic, we’ll automatically switch you to Afternic’s Custom Lander."

So your name will show Afternic's custom lander. Are you reading it in some other way that make you worry, even though they said "don't worry"?

The answer is implied but not specifically stated.

I don't even think it's implied.

I think there were originally two sections (one about nameserver and one about landers) and they kinda got amalgamated.

One thing is for absolute sure, there was no definitive answer to the nameserver question anywhere in that FAQ.

I am reading it as "that's not an answer" and it really looks like there is something that got deleted and replaced by the dash. It's like "don't worry" and then jumps right into the a description of the lander... which isn't even mentioned in the question.

Taken at face value, the statement actually reads "If you're been forwarding to your domains to Dan, don't worry - once you’re migrated to Afternic, we’ll automatically switch you to Afternic’s Custom Lander. The design will feel familiar to you."

The proper question to that statement would be "I use Dan nameservers and I love the default lander - is Afternic's lander going to look weird and confusing?"

Because they really didn't say anything definitive other than which lander you'll be assigned. Oh yeah, and "not to worry". LOL

And obviously I understand the correct solution would be to merge the Dan.com nameservers to Afternic, but until I hear something stating this in plain English, I'm going to keep asking GD. And if they're going to do this, why has no one chimed in with a confirmation?

Dan is being killed off in just less than a month.

I cannot use Afternic as my primary marketplace because their brokers are overworked and dead-slow.

I don't want to switch to Sedo because they are not a registrar or have access to a full-service registrar for transfers.

I think I need to take the next few weeks to figure out what I do, as Dan was the Gold Standard and I don't see anything else coming close. I might have to use Bodis landers while I get a site working for my domains.

Unfortunately, for us, yes - the application/service/system is in perpetual beta test mode. Things rarely get corrected OR stay corrected for long.

If the reported issues in this thread got resolved and self-brokerage introduced then we're good to go. Otherwise, I think we're in the same boat. Dan landers with Afternic listings was the best combination ever. Let's see what happens in the upcoming days and act upon it.
