Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Alan Shiflett explains their rationale for the 'verified' icon here (but not why they thought the wording itself is appropriate, when it in effect makes non-Boosted listings seem suspicious after buyers have seen those badges on some domain names):

So, the "verified domain" label just means someone is using "Boost".

  • FTC misleading representations (U.S.) โ€“ Use of โ€œverified domainโ€ could be deemed deceptive advertising under Federal Trade Commission guidelines if buyers are led to believe ownership is verified when it is not.
  • EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive โ€“ Mislabeling could qualify as a misleading commercial practice if consumers are induced to make a transactional decision based on false or ambiguous claims.
  • Negligent misrepresentation (civil liability) โ€“ Buyers who relied on the โ€œverifiedโ€ label and suffered loss (e.g., purchase of a domain not actually for sale) could bring claims for damages.
  • Misleading business practices (general consumer protection laws) โ€“ Various jurisdictions have statutes against unfair or deceptive business conduct

As a buyer I would have to ask, "These domains cost thousands of dollars, why would GoDaddy attempt to sell me a domain that is not verified?"
Imagine an ice cream stand where only some flavors have a "frozen" badge.

@GoDaddy What about having an option to show overall views? Currently I can only get stats for each domain.

Today the sale email is not being delivered.

The one with the title:
"xxxxxx has sold at Afternic, congrats!"

Good thing they are still sending the second one
"We are ready to transfer xxxxxx"

There's also something weird going on with LTOs. I've been getting the initial "It sold via LTO" emails but not the ones that usually come immediately after saying "Transfer is complete" and "It's happening: payment on the way."

To anyone else seeing the "This site can't be reached" blank page on any of your Afternic landing pages, could you please send a DM to @GoDaddy with a list of names it's happening to? They're trying to find a common denominator to troubleshoot this issue.

I think the browser warning message is actually a bit misleading. The small print in your screenshot mentions an issue with SSL. Without knowing the domain (DM me if you like), the site actually can be reached, and you have arrived at the webserver, but Afternic has not provisioned (or renewed) the [correct] TLS certificate for your domain.

Afternic landers don't load if you have Verizon wireless, the largest mobile carrier in the US.

Afternic does not need to put SSL at every domain, would be impossible, landers use godaddy's link
of type :https://www.godaddy.com/forsale/domainname so all use finally Godaddy.com certificate, if there is initially redirect from every protocol usually browsers do not send a warning

No, all active landers get a TLS cert on the base domain.
Yes correct, but happens after first visit, on first time i see http at headers that redirects to godaddy link lander, at second visit there is TLS cert at base name

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Especially the "would be impossible" part.

Did not express it right, sorry! impossible is for real SSL as would need to issue at every new name their NS added, you are right.
Generally over the years never had even a warning from afternic landers
