Hi, through whom do you have more sales? I assume that it mostly goes through "who is data" which is associated with sedo or afternic. who has better conversions ? I use only afternic, an average of 1-2 sales per month for a portfolio of 4000 domains.

Doing the math, I can see you are not achieving a 1% sell-through rate. Moving your domains to Sedo probably will not make a difference.

However, why not add them to both?

because who.is always shows only one seller where the domain is added first. I'm just interested in who has a better conversion rate than someone experienced. Sedo has lower fees.

I may misunderstand. Whois record shows the current DNS settings at the bottom, and if you change those, say from Sedo to Afternic or Dan, it now shows the new ones. Or do you mean something else, like entering extra information in one of the contact fields?

In terms of your questions, I tend to list at all of Afternic, Dan and Sedo, and also normally at the marketplace of the registrar, if there is one. So for example a Dynadot registered name would be on Dynadot Marketplace, Dan, Afternic and Sedo (assuming not a brandable marketplace name).

I tend to move around where the lander is. But these are my general practices...
  • If it is a multiple word or acronym, I use a lander that supports CamelCase display, such as Dan (and never Afternic for those).
  • If I think it is most likely to sell at Afternic or Dan, I use one of those so pay 15% not 25% commission.
  • If I feel that a description is helpful, I use Dan.
  • I tend to switch landers around from time to time, so will use the new style Sedo ones on some names some of the time.
  • The first 60 days, or after a record change, I use the registrar lander so transfer possible.
I generally try to register eligible names at Afternic FT or Sedo MLS at a qualifying registrar, and activate FT. For new extensions and country codes that are part of Sedo MLS, but not Afternic FT, I try to register at a Sedo qualifying registrar. Registrars like Sav, Dynadot and NameSilo make it easy since part of both networks.

I mean this:
Domain Tools is an Afternic partner, so Domain Tools is adding a link to the sale for that item when someone does a Whois search.

See list of partners .... https://help.afternic.com/s/article/Afternic-Partners

Some partners will show that in Whois searches. For example, if you do a Whois search at Namecheap, they will show a link if name is listed for sale on network.

But that is not part of the official Whois. e.g. if you search the name at ICANN Whois:
https://lookup.icann.org/en/lookup
you won't see any links to marketplaces where the name is listed.
