Hi all, I need some advice, please. There is a company wants to acquire my domain, I did some background check on the company, it is a rather famous company that produces health-care products, and my domain matches the name of one of their skincare lines, they wouldn't want to make me an offer, but asked me for my price, so they could decide whether they still want it or not. I'm not sure how much I should ask, since it's just one of their product lines, not for the company. It's not a .com, but a country extension. Thank you!

Nobody ever wants to say a price :singing:

Ask for high 5 figures or 6 figures, then let them continue to make offers and don't bring down your price.

You own the exact name for their product, they want it. Just be aware that most large companies who are making an inbound inquiry will be okay with $15k - $30k and won't put up much resistance at that price point.

This is why you domain, the big sale... so close, be happy, and take a vacation with the proceeds.

They sure wanted it, not bad enough though, lol. I asked for a low 5 figures, definitely a reasonable price for the company, they didn't even care to negotiate even though I offered it, obviously, they didn't really need the domain.

How long did you wait? A day, an hour? Sometimes you have to let things marinate and walk away.

Offering up a negotiation negates any firmness.

Silence is golden.

They made up their mind and stated they weren't interested in buying the domain for more than 500 euro, so I don't think there was a room for further negotiation. I just thanked them for their interest and time.

Everyone has this phantom "500" number in their heads when they start making offers.

I guess they figure that is the amount that most domainers would take.

You made the right move. Time will tell what their actual budget is.

Best of luck and success.

They expressed interest and came to you. Why would a fairly large/famous company even bother if they thought a domain name was worth only 500 Euro. Keep in mind that even the largest companies want to pay as little as possible for a domain name because they often feel entitled. As a matter of fact, if they hired a law firm or a brokerage to purchase this name they could be paying them 500 Euro an hour for his "effort", it's a joke for a large company to offer 500 Euro for an exact match for their product name in a major country like Germany. Give them a price you're comfortable with but don't go overboard and let them know that it's not open for negotiation. Be nice but firm and walk away. They will come back if the price is reasonable. or you could lose a sale (it's a gamble), but if it pays it will be worth it, if not then you lost a potential 500 sale, but kept your domain. If you are sure they don't have a trademark on the term, quickly put up a for sale page with the price you quoted them as BIN price to further scare them that someone else may grab it.

The german market is huge - population over 80 million. A skincare product targets a very wide range of population, therefor a 500 EUR offer is far to low. However have in mind that the germans pay far less than for example the americans. Could be also that the next card they will play is to file a UDRP !?

Hang on tight and don't park the name with ads related to their product. Wish you all the best!:xf.smile:

I guess I overestimated their sincerity, lol. The company said they didn't think that the domain worth more than 500 euro (being quite disrespectful for the name of their own product line), even though their company earns millions of dollars every year.
It's normal: business is business...
If I'm in your place, I ask $50.000
Good Luck :xf.wink:

I just found out it's a trademark (Both devicemark and wordmark), the application dates for both were earlier than my domain registration date, however, the registration date for the wordmark was after my domain registration date.

Then I think it is a good idea to accept their offer and get rid of it quickly.

I don't remember where I read it from, thought I had a better chance to win the case, if the trademark registration date was after the domain registration date?

Sure, but only if you don't mind getting involved in a trademark case. :) Just check this TM case (he won at the end though): http://www.nissan.com

I believe no one really wants to get involved in a trademark case, but if this is how they play, just to get a good domain cheap or free, I'm afraid I have to then. Thank you for sharing, will read it now! :)
