So my question is this, at what point does copy right laws come into play?

A friend back home wanted me to build basically a hate forum about a certain company.

EXAMPLE:
Let’s say I bought “ Virginiapower.info ”. It was the only option left to purchase. That used their physical name. Of course this domain name is just an example.

This company is privately owned and with private held stock holders etc…

Like him and 1000’s of others hate this company but they have no choice because it is the only option for electricity, unless you go Solar…

If I bought this domain and turned it into a public hate forum that it is basically nothing but complaints and negativity about this company.

How could I protect myself since I would be buying it and hosting it for him?

Would this be violating any copy right laws, or any other laws for that matter?

If so what would be an example of the above domain name that someone could use that would not be violating any laws?

Thank You for any help I might be able to get on this.
))))))))

Creating a forum exclusively to hate a company is generally not my cup of tea and in all honesty it would not really make much of an impact. A forum dedicated towards hating a company in my opinion would not be taken as seriously as maybe a community that reviews several different power companies with both positive and negative reviews. If I myself go to a hate site full of people hating a specific place, then that is all I am going to expect to find there. I would rather go to a site that is more impartial and has a more accurate review. So if you want to proceed with what your doing, you can go right ahead. But, sites such as those in my opinion don't make much of an impact of what the company's actual reputation is and may only cause some headaches for you as the creator.

Complaint/hate forums can work - in Australia http://www.vodafail.com/ succeeded in costing Vodafone a large percentage of their customers.

Note they have twisted the brands name, diluting the possibility of having a legal complaint.

It is however very tricky to pull off - I suggest only proceeding if:

1. It is important enough for you to take on the risk of being sued
2. You are capable of growing the site fast before the brand notices - so that if they attempt to bring you down there would be a public outcry.
