Smirnoff Advertising Goes Mobile! (USA)

Diageo, owner of such well known brands as Guinness, Dom Perignon, Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray, Baileys, and José Cuervo - has launched a special mobile service to promote Smirnoff, their No.1 premium Vodka brand.

Developed by digital agency AKQA, the mobile initiative from Smirnoff delivers features and content developed specifically for consumers on the move. This content is designed to act as an invaluable ‘pocket guide to vodka’ and also to help consumers make the most of their nights out. (see the MobiAD interview with Dan Rosen, Head of AKQA Mobile).

Michelle Klein, global digital marketing director at Smirnoff, said: “We are very excited by the initiative. The mobile platform presents consumers with an unexpected and original way to engage with the Smirnoff brand.”

The Smirnoff.mobi site is backed by a mobile advertising campaign which will run across key mobile portals and lifestyle sites. Here is what the Smirnoff ads look like running on the Orange and Vodafone portals.

My. ..My its a great news! Just visited AKQA.com and saw major players on their client roster. Nike, Coka Cola & all major players. How iconic was Absolute Vodka with their ads. I wish even bigger success with this mobi. Hoping the others follow Smirnoff's lead!

Mobi Cheap, I watched the you tube video & it basically doesn't say anything for or against mobi as you probably summized.As gen 3 phones etc get more sofisticated so will everything else and Android is just calling to the needs of this.
However on our side I think it's important that these steps are being taken & it is somewhat frustrating but sooner or later mobi will be addressed (hopefully sooner)

IMHO Android is very good news for .mobi, particularly given the timescales confirmed by Google, i.e. the first hardware only arriving in the second half of 2008, meaning the new phones have no real chance of becoming mainstream before 2009, while so many new people will have started producing much more and much better content in the meantime due to the pre-released Android platform and SDK. And in the meantime, all those hundreds of premium developed mobi sites will have to come online - contractually - within the next six months or so.

In my previous post I was referring to the style of the presentation, rather than the content - should have been more specific about it but most people here know not to take me seriously.
