I just submitted this in the "Message for Hilary" form on hilaryclinton.com. Chances of her ever seeing it? Slim to none, but who knows, the idea might just plant a seed with someone involved in her campaign and if not, well I guess I wasted a whole 2 minutes of my day:

Going to be a hot race, everyone claiming to be the bigger patriot, everyone claiming to care the most about their country.

You know what's ironic? Not a single one of you is using the USA domain extension for their campaign. When Volvo and Hitachi advertise on TV in the USA, they send their visitors to Hitachi.us and Volvo.us, their market research has shown that this makes them appear somehow "more American". Not that they gave up their .COM of course, they all redirect to the same site, but .US stands out. What better use for it than in the political race for president of the USA?

Just another small subliminal way to appeal to Americans, because let's face it, your web site doesn't exist to grow support in Australia.

Actually no I don't own hilaryclinton.us. The point was to inform an organization that I think has something to gain from using a .US name and has the ability to market it, so it's a win all round. Marketing a specific domain of my own was not the agenda. I do own 'votehilary.us' (lord knows why, seemed like a good idea at the time) but would happily donate it to them if they used it - there was no mention of the name in my email.

Btw, I didn't send that to any other politicians but it really applies to all of them, so if anyone feels like pasting it into the 'contact us' forms for other candidates, go for it

It is Hillary not Hilary. I own her nic "Hill" HillClinton.us and dems2008.us, democrats2008.us also republicans2008.us

Lol, which makes my reg even more genius Oh well, can't win em all, I think it's just about to expire anyway and I'm not renewing anything TM sensitive period this year. Not that it's automatically a TM issue, it's all down to usage, but let's say that the odds of me creating a 'vote hilary' site are pretty slim...

It just goes to show you how much there is a need for marketing people to understand how to use domain names to one's advantage. Even many large corporations lack the insight of how to fully leverage domain names, although it is nice to recognize the few that do. GM particularly does a good job, although I'd like to see them start using more .us domains.

Agreed.
But I think that there needs to be some campaign that would help in the recognition of this extention.

Not to beat a dead horse, or contract...
...but if only Neustar would comply with the DoC agreement and complete the zipcode directory, I think that the .us would skyrocket.
