I have decided to get a good bike to ride to work. But I am having a hard time picking one.

I am looking for a mountain bike that doesnt have a suspension/dual suspension and has 21 speeds.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I just ordered an Iron Horse from a dealer close to me. Black Creek Bike Shop 717 362 1021

They have a few good models for your needs. Most are 24 speed and some are 27.
I was also considering a Haro from the same shop. If you are close, try them out.

EDIT: I see you are not too close by. But check out the links. I have bought two Iron Horse bikes for my family and am very happy with them. The third will be here soon.

Yep they do. I thought I saw some mntn bikes w/o suspension but I can't find them anymore. I think they were the transit style bike which is a cross breed. Still, most won't have a rigid fork but some light duty suspensions have a lock out on them.

The reason I dont like them is it seems like just another thing that could go wrong.

The last time I bought a "X" speed bike I kept popping the chain. I kept taking it back and getting a new bike but finally gave up and got my money back.

I am 6'1 and have a big build, just a bit over weight(another reason to get a bike!) so that scares me too with these shocks. I have been looking at all kinds of bikes and none ever seem to tell you what is a safe weight limit...

Yeah I liked the Landrider when I seen it on TV. It now comes with "dual suspension" though... :(

I've been riding hard tail bikes for years(Gary Fisher bikes) and can't take the pounding anymore so I just ordered an Iron Horse Yakuza Ojiki. I'm 6'2" 220 and ride hard. I never had a problem with my suspension but have had many problems related to the pounding I get from no suspension. Same as driving a car w/o shocks. A hard tail with front shocks would be a nice commuter. A good bike with good forks will hold a big guy and last with rare and minor problems. So whatever style you decide, I would suggest a quality manufacture and not a Walmart rack bike.

Yeah Walmart rack bikes will just rust and break, plus they suck.

Actually I saw a Dyno bike in a walmart flyer. Dyno was a pro bike back in the day.

My husband and I have Trek mountain bikes --- they're pretty darn sturdy and have held up for quite some time. My husband's a pretty big guy and he finds the Trek comfortable.

We also have a Giant mountain bike, and that one's nice as well.

Dyno. Boy you're showing your age.
:]

I ran a Hutch. Most of my friends ran Haro, Mongoose or Diamondback.

Now they sell Mongoose, Diamondback and Redline in department stores. They're not good bikes anymore. Not even close.

I'm going to try the Iron Horse Ojiki. They say it's built like a tank. I bought two light duty Iron Horses(Mavericks)for the family and now 7&5 years later, they are still tight and in near perfect running order.
