I have a bulk of files that I need to download for a project, but it's a time-consuming task. I'm looking for a script (free, possibly) that I can enter a series of URLs into and then, after pressing 'start' or whatever, the script would begin to download the files I need and save them to my harddrive. Anyone know of such a script? I'll give some $np to whoever posts first with a decent script to tell me about. I don't use them, snymore, anyway. :)

- Install Flashget (http://www.flashget.com) on your computer. It is a download manager which allows batch downloading. Configure it as required.

- If you are using IE: open the page with all the links, right click on any blank space and click "Download all using flashget". This will open up a window in Flashget with all the files. You can choose which files to skip (i.e. images). Click OK and choose your destination. A message will show up asking "Use same settings for all the files?", click yes.

- If you are using Firefox: Install the Flashgot extension (http://www.flashgot.net), open the page in a new window/tab, right click on any blank space and click "Flashgot All". Flashget will now open a similar window with all the links from the webpage, choose which files to skip (i.e. images). Click OK and choose your destination. A message will show up asking "Use same settings for all the files?", click yes.

Download http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/wgetwin-1_5_3_1-binary.zip and extract the wget.exe file into a directory of your choice (preferably windows\system32 because that way wget works from everywhere)

Then make a text file urlfile.txt that includes all URLs. Put it into the directory where you want the files to be downloaded to.

Then make a bat file run.bat with the content "wget -i urlfile.txt" (without parentheses). This file goes into the same dir as your urlfile (your download directory).

Double-Click the run.bat file. Voila.

You were the first to post, so 25 more $np should be in your account. :)

Is there any security risks with this software ie can anyone access my harddrive using it?

Nope, it's a simple software. It has a little banner on the top which can be removed if you pay for it. But it's fully functional even without paying.

I second the motion for wget. At first all the options can be a bit daunting but once you get the hang of it , it can be VERY powerful. It`s a must have piece of software for me.

I'm still experimenting with file downloading software/scripts. Flashget seems to work decent for me but I can't get it to download .zip files. I might need to try a few different things... I think I might try that wget and the script wackyjoe mentioned. Thanks to you all for your posts - they're all appreciated greatly. :)

I would suggest staying with the graphical tools if you do not need to do this often. Otherwise, it is worth learning wget.

In Flashget go to: Tools -> Options -> Monitor and add the file extensions that you want Flashget to monitor on the clipboard. The next time you copy a URL with .zip or .exe, Flashget will automatically detect it and show a window with download settings.
