To those who perhaps are more seasoned at actually making sales in this arena, are appraisals worth any weight at all? Also, how reliable are all of the reported sales on namebio (are the major sales self reported?))

After acquiring over 50 domains in the last few days on closeouts and a couple auctions, I’ve seen them start to get transferred on dyna, and many of them fall anywhere between $15k-20k appraisal.

Just a couple examples of ones I was most surprised by:

Newpainter.com
Equipmentscale.com
hotradios.com

I run through esti, atoms tool and more conservative outlets, getting anywhere from $500-1000+ on these but far and away much more conservative. Makes sense, sounds like dyna likes their own supply 😅

I’m speculating on mostly ai etc plays with better future potl, however grabbing very straightforward.coms that speak for themselves in outbound, and I’m wondering I guess what is a fair asking price for this “tier” of domains (I would consider high quality keywords but not brandable alone as a name) based on the numbers I am getting from more realistic appraisal tools.

That would be part of my first question, the reliability of the appraisals of more “business oriented” domain types that explain exactly the business/call to action but might not be a brand name of itself: similar (just examples) might include goldbuyer.com, cookiesandmore.com, hottubrepair.com

These are just suggestions but maybe someone could touch on them as most I have my eyes on are still $1,000+ appraisal on the more conservative tools. Outbounds? Send to auction? What’s your process?

That second question: can I trust all these major sales on namebio, X cross posted etc as an actual reflection of the market? Any whales flipping their own domains and confusing the market? Is that a thing?

Brand new to my own domain brokerage pursuit any addl input is appreciated!

No, appraisals are worthless. An appraisal tells you how much someone (or some machine) thinks your domain will sell for if it finds a buyer. An appraisal does not tell you how likely you are to find a buyer. 99% of domains will never find a buyer.

Never auction off domains, you will lose money. Expired domain name auctions are not examples of how seller auctions go. Sell domains to end users. Expect to sell 1% of your domains, perhaps 5% if you're very very good at investing.

Reported sales are mostly true. However, most reported sales are from expired auctions which are not useful to know about because those sales are to investors. Most end user sales are not reported. I do not report most of my sales...

Outbound selling can work for the right domain but outbound sales are basically impossible if you first acquire the domain and then decide to try and sell it outbound. Doesn't matter how good your domains are.

That is wonderful input, and confirms a bit of my understanding now.

I’m using 8-10 appraisal tools also including Grok and chat gpt, so in a way, I’m requiring any candidate to be appealing across the whole scope. Seems like a good amount of people suggest just to use them for research, and spit out the bones.

I am very dedicated to outbound (seems much more intentional than spam posting here and Reddit etc) so I’m going to attempt to build a strategy around that.

Thanks for touching on reported sales and how that works.

No, appraisals are worthless.
This is not an absolute.

Appraisals can be used intelligently to convince buyers to purchase a domain name. Just choose the right appraisals.

Thanks for sharing!
I think most end user sales not reported with really reasonable. When we use nambio to find comparable brand able sales, I realized that reported sales will skew towards wholesale/ domaines-to-domainer transactions.
