Controversial web forum 8chan has moved its domain name to a new registrar after it was linked to at least one of the two mass shootings that occurred in the US over the weekend.

According to Whois records, it’s just jumped to racist-friendly Epik, having been registered at Tucows since 2003.

The switch appears to have happened in the last few hours. At time of writing, you’re going to get different results depending which Whois server you ping.

Some servers continue to report Tucows as the registrar of record, perhaps using cached data, but Epik’s result looks like this:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Will this have any impact on the domains that I and many others have registered there?

of course not

maybe you order some
"forever" domains

Well that was my point in posting that, I am tired of the many being affected or potentially affected by the few.

So Maple you start another one of these hugely popular controversial threads, lol. Namepros must be happy.

Why are you labeling Rob's company "Racist Friendly" He is "Freedom of Speech Friendly", a better term. I hear the CNN-MSNBC talking heads calling President Trump a Racist everyday, so anybody that isn't liberal in their political views is now somehow being labeled Racist. It's really pathetic.

No one on here has asked @Rob Monster to contribute even though his company is being called "racist friendly" ?

Edit below:

Should have the decency when discussing someones business or views to tag them imo.....

Agree. Where's @Rob Monster ? I am sure he is way too busy finding another hosting company and keeping freedom of speech alive.

He is not obligated to answer immediately or ever really. Let's all keep that in mind! He does not need to defend his views, but he actually does. He also was in Rick's meeting on the East Coast I believe, perhaps traveling today.

I think we are lucky that Rob participates here regardless of his beliefs and views whether you agree or disagree, he is an intelligent person.

However, when it comes to race and ethnicity, one race is particularly dominant among the killers.

Again you're incorrect here, if you are insinuating that Whites are a higher proportion of their overall population. The opposite is true, Whites and Hispanics kill at a lower rate to their population proportions than any other race. The mainstream media loves to talk about all the white nationalist mass killers, they bury stories of non white mass shooters. Here is a graphic compiled by the Crime Prevention Research Center. White and Hispanic mass shooters are lower in proportion to their corresponding population numbers. Most people that bring race into a mass shooter discussion rarely understand this. But 96% of mass shootings are perpetrated by MALES! That should be the focus, mass shootings are mainly about HATE not race!

...

As to the racism issue, it just plain stupid. Anyone that thinks through the shallow arguments in support of superior or inferior races as a whole will find that all human beings are one species, are born the same, bleed the same, procreate the same, and die the same. Each unique, yet connected.

Agreeed.

The last four mass shootings were carried out by four nihilist. They hate life, period. Their "manifestos" are contradictory, they claim both conservative and liberal ideologies.

The media and politicians will do their best to exploit these tragedies and completely ignore the victims and the root cause.

I guess you know you are exaggerating
and tweaking @MapleDots words
in order to discredit him?

nope
and this is my last answer to you and MapleDot

I just read that "Voxility" the company that provides servers to Epik's Bitmitigate, has pulled their servers from Bitmitigate.

@Rob Monster , will the suspension of Bitmitigate by Voxility, affect Bitmitigates ability to do business?

Now Bitmitigate.com is offline! Crazy!

Now we know why Rob isn't here to defend himself, he's busy putting out fires today!
Exactly. He probably never thought Voxility would cut off Bitmitigate over this. Facsinating.

Everyone has blood on their hands, from the little guy who goes on rampage and does yet another mass shooting to the ideological and fanatical extremists who kill on the global scale. I hate to see Rob becoming the fall guy here for the shortcomings and ignorance of mankind at large.

I guess I should have been more clear in my opening post....

None of that was my writing, I was simply quoting the linked article. Only the words in the second post are my own. From there you can see I have formed no opinions other than to ask questions.

A few people have quoted the article words to appear as if they are my own. They are not and my only intention for the topic was to discuss the quoted article from domainincite.com.

So I hope everyone understands that if I do not respond to the quotes it is because they are not my quotes.

Now as to my opinion on all of this...

I think a registrar should do their job and be a registrar, it is not a registrars job to have any part in censoring the internet. What cloudflare and godaddy has done in the past is despicable censorship and I am with Rob at Epik with this.

Now as far as judging the websites go, I cannot do that either because I do not read smut, lies and the type of information these sites spurt out on a daily basis. Then again I also don't agree with porn sites and how they portray sex, but I don't try to ban them either.

I think it is correct when Rob says a court of law should decide what gets censored. If we allow registrars and webhosts to act as policemen on the internet then it will become a slippery slope to full censorship controlled by a few large corporations.

Google no longer allows you to right-click to obtain a link to an image from their results like that. You're linking to the search result page instead, so our servers aren't able to embed links to the images.

Namepros must be happy.

It was inevitable. Just please keep it civil and on-topic; this isn't a place to debate political views except as they pertain to the domaining industry. As always, if something crosses the line, please report it. We're not manually reviewing each post.

Folks,

Here is my official statement:

Freedom of speech and expression are fundamental rights in a free society. We enter into a slippery slope when we start to limit speech that makes us uncomfortable. The censorship we’ve seen across major social media platforms as of late has created a vacuum. Our services fill the ever growing need for a neutral service provider that will not arbitrarily terminate accounts based on social or political pressure. Our philosophy is, if the customer is not breaking the law, providers of technology should apply discernment in determining whether or not to service.

Specific to any of the “Chan” sites, Epik did not solicit this business. We have also not made a definitive decision about whether to provide DDoS mitigation or Content Delivery services for them. We will evaluate this in the coming days. From what little we know so far, the Chans are not lawless and do have moderation, especially in regards to DMCA and content which is illegal in the United States. Ultimately, we believe that "sunlight is the best disinfectant" and that exposing hateful ideas is necessary if they are to be defeated. However this must absolutely occur within the bounds of the law.

As for core Epik, we are all systems go, including the parking landers, etc.. We had some short outages this morning but recovered quickly. Resiliency is evident.

As for BitMitigate, we hope to have that back online soon following the underwhelming action taken by one of our network providers that are part of of our global CDN. The technology is impressive but it does rely on trusted peers.

Hosting customers at Epik and Sibyl were generally not impacted.

The Anonymize WHOIS privacy service continued to work normally. The Anonymize VPN service also was not impacted for existing users.

Specific to the "Chan" content, I have barely ever visited any of them, have never registered. I also have no doubt that the sites allow cringeworthy content. This seems politically motivated with a determined and capable sponsor.

For those who missed it, we did not go looking for any "Chan" business. It is a rather sad state of the world when one company in the whole world becomes the provider of last resort for lawful free speech.

Once the dust settles, I do plan to address a few themes in this thread. In the meantime, I am a little disappointed by some of the rhetoric I have read so far.

Thanks
Rob Monster

I am curious as to how they moved to your registrar so quick?
