IMO 5L.coms are already starting to heat up and as soon as all of the LLLL.coms are reg's the 5L.com market will really start to move.

If you can afford to hold them for a couple years then TRULEY pronouncable, quality letter, 5L.coms are going to be highly sought.. IMO

What do you think about them?

Yes there are more 5L.coms then 4L's or 3L's but if you only are looking for quality combinations of quality letters then that does dwindle the numbers down a bit.

There are:
17,576 3L.coms
456,976 4L.coms
11,881,376 5L.coms

OK, so yeah, there are alot more 5L.coms than the others. But like I said try to look at only the 5L.coms with quality combination or letters.

One example would be: CVCVC.coms (C=Consonant, V=Vowel)
Assuming that, X, Y, Z, Q, J, K, H, U, W are NOT premium letters (debatable).

There are only 122,825 premium letter, CVCVC.coms

and

Only 36,125 premium letter VCVCV.coms

Basically you have to find the niche within the niche :)

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong,
GG

Good 5L.coms are already worth big money (and I'm not talking about 5 letter words like poker). Sedo recently closed cymax.com at 11k. A brandable 5L.com, such as cymax.com makes alot more sense from and endusers point of view than a name like XZQW.com, which I highly doubt could ever be branded effectively.

Yep, although I have a couple of hundred LLLL.com's I believe that 5L.com's that are pronouncable and catchy eg. many CVCVC names will probably be worth more than LLLL.com names with low quality letters. I have a dozen or so catchy 5L.com names and have already sold one (only bought them a couple of months ago). I will be buying quite a few more in the future.

However just buying random 5L names is definitely not a good strategy in my opinion due to the sheer number of combinations. I can't see random 5L.com's eg. GXYRT.com being worth anything except in the very, very rare case that they mean something to someone.

That's my 2c on the subject anyway :)

I agree that they're a good investment if brandable and easy to pronounce such as CVCVC. I've been holding onto nosum(.)com and a few others and waiting.

Only if I think they sound brandable :) There's alot of competition in the drops for them usually.

I won't be reging any hejlp.com type names.

I have a few that are very pronouncable and catchy.
There won't be a rush on these for some time, as there are so many more unregistered letter combinations than LLLL.com

i really consider them as long term investment but im not grabbing them
i prefer 4L.com now for some reasons:

1) u can still find some nice out there w a VERY reasonable price (u have to search, spend ur time searching but it really worth it)
2) as we r talking about investment today the best one IMO, is 4L.com cuz u will have a great profit in no more than 1 or 2 yr (i really believe 2 yr is very exagerated)... it is math -> today a 4L.com is sth like $50-1000 (and believe me u can find nice one at $100), so if u grab one for $100 today in jul/aug/sep, 2008 u will sell it for AT LEAST $500 so waht do u think about 500% profit in 1 yr? -> FOR ME IS PERFECT!!!

so im not grabbing 5L cuz im investing all that i can in 4L

best of luck for u all (lets reg everything that worth it)
regards,
bricio

5L's in my opinion are prime for business names/branding, as opposed to 4L's few of which (that are left) would effectively be brandable/pronouncable by coomparison. Though with 11M possibilities there are many options still left, and as such the supp;y is high and the cost should remain low for awhile until demand heightens and availaility dwindles..

That's exactly how I feel about them. I've been collecting them since 2004 (before I started buying and selling domains regularly) and I feel good about their future, and their sales outside of this forum. Like all the other niches, so many people get attached to the names, registering so many that they have no value here, much like LLLL.coms. I feel "CVCVC" and "premium letters" are out the window at this point; names that sound the best are the ones that will sell. Using Reece's example of Cymax.com, which isn't a "pure" CVCVC domain and has two "bad" letters, Y and X, proves this. If they sound nice and you can actually say the names out loud to someone without spelling the name, you've got a winner if it's five or six characters.

I started to invest in 5L.com a month ago and continue to reg. more names. I agree that random 5L.com like HLNSR.com isn't worth registering even though it contains all good letter.

I also have to agree that pronounable 5.L.com has a lot of potential due to its brandability. I've been concentrating with pronounceable names with all good letters. However, there are some that contains some bad letters but still brandable. For instance, CYMAX.com as mentioned above contains 2 bad letters but was sold for $11K. I have similar domain which is FYMAX.com

The most popular combo in this category are the CVCVC and VCVCV.

I only have 40 total in this category and I will definitely reg. more perhaps 100 or 200 before the end of 2007. I have listed quite a few of my favorite that I think its brandable.

EOSEO.com
DRYPT.com
FOISE.com
HUSEO.com
MOARS.com
NEOSY.com
OTHOR.com
SCUAD.com
SKERF.com
FYMAX.com

Way too early to start thinking about those seriously or "as an investment". Maybe in 10 years time.

Brandable - good letters 5L.com are only good for a quick buck flip. I've seen some of them selling at 20ish on eBay, just because they sounded good.

Still, investing systematically on those sounds ridicolous to me, at this time at least. too many are still free.

An early bird catch the worms first

Maybe in 10 years time.
Good luck finding brandable names during that time

Maybe for you

No wonder you're thinking the way you are.
I think eBay is one of the worse place to deal with domains. I would suggest to look at other auction places.

I am a big believer in 5-Letter brandable domains. The key points being brandable and memorable. Say it out loud... does it sound catchy? Could you see a memorable site or product built around it? 5 random letters would be worthless though. I've sold a few of the 5 letter brandables in the low to mid $xxx range, and that is just fine with me.

I like the baby talk idea with 5 letter brandable domains.

If a very young child can say it easily, it has great potential.

I don't buy many as most of my domain money goes into renewal fees of domains I bought in previous years but I think they have great potential.

CVCVC.com are one of the most popular types.

Personally I like the CVCCV.com where CC are the same letter and CVCVV where VV is the same letter repeated. My favourite of mine is THUZZ.com.
