discuss 5 figure offer and bad experience with GoDaddy/Afternic and their broker

My recent experience with Godaddy/Afternic.

On November 26th I got a 5-figure offer through Afternic, which was presented to me by GoDaddy broker Joshua Z.
After my countoffer (the same day), I could see in my Afternic account that the buyer replied ("email received from buyer").
Since I did not know what the buyer replied in the email, I sent a message to the broker to ask about it. (From that information, I could adjust my negotiation with the buyer or even change my mind and accept the initial offer, but most importantly, I could keep the negotiation going with the buyer.)
I didn't get a reply from the broker that day.
I didn't get a reply the next day and
the following day.
I sent multiple emails to the broker trying to contact him through the Afternic website ("Contact the broker") and directly using his email address, but no reply to this day.

After a few days without any reply, I sent an email through the Afternic Help Center and GoDaddy.
I also contacted GoDaddy using their chat, and their representative there said he would make my case a priority.
Unfortunately, I haven't gotten any reply in the following days or to this day from them.

I contacted a GoDaddy representative through the official GoDaddy thread here on NamePros.
The representative said he understands that it must be a frustrating experience for me and
"I'll connect with the team. Note, most are in the US, so there could be a delay with getting a response."
From that, I got the impression that I would get a reply quickly; maybe even that day.
I didn't get a reply that day from GoDaddy team.
I didn't get a reply the next day and
the following day.
I didn't get a reply to this day.

Things like that just harm negotiation with the buyer and decrease chances to close the deal successfully. Not to mention wasted time, frustration, and that it takes my focus from other important things.

I am shocked by how Godday/Afternic work.
I used DAN before, and I always was able to get a reply within an hour or hours or even instantly through their chat. Everything was smooth and pleasure. I could make a counteroffer and send a message, and the buyers cloud did the same, and everyone was getting that information instantly, and negotiations were going on.
Here I cannot even get a simple reply, and they have a higher commission than DAN had before they put hands on it.

Today, in my time zone, is December 2nd, and I still haven't gotten a reply from GoDaddy, Afternic, or their broker.

Am I really expecting too much?
Should I, or anyone else, be happy with the customer service like this?

This is why I moved 100% of my names to Namepros Landers.

I get to communicate with the lead, no one else. They (GD, AN, other platforms) do not get cross-sell or push other domain inventory on traffic to my domains. I get to do that if I wish to.

That is one of the best feelings, even if I am not great at it, I am still in control.

This is why I moved 100% of my names to Namepros Landers.

This is definitely what I will try to test now because I don't want to be in a situation like this again.

Of course not. Unfortunately, what would surprise me is a positive experience with Afternic.

For example, I just wasted 15 min of time (at least) composing an email to Godaddy pleading with them to take down an unauthorized listing of one of my domains that some bad actor has managed to place with a Buy Now of $99,000. On top of that, my registrar for the domain today emailed that someone (likely the same bad actor) has activated an Afternic Fast Transfer listing request for same domain (mine!). Of course this means more time wasted.

Have you noticed that both Godaddy.com and Afternic.com require you to click twice (and drag cursor) simply to login (twice, apparently)? This very fact is a fitting preview of what is to come if you plan to keep feeding this abysmal, time-wasting, constantly upselling, customer jerking company.

I leave my names listed at AN because of that bug. Or is it a feature? It may be a feature to keep our names listed with them so they can claim X-number of domains listed in their aftermarket.... would not surprise me. My names are listed there but do not resolve there. If someone, somehow, finds my name there AN knows where to contact me.

I just realized it takes THREE clicks to login AN, plus the added treat of having to choose to login with GoDaddy creds or stick with AN username for more time-wasting entertainment.

On with the sh*t show!

Big Tree don't be too disappointed. you could be like me and sell a name through Godaddy and never get paid. And yes I sent numerous emails to the company and called on the phone and never heard anything back. Fortunately it wasn't for thousands of dollars. Godaddy just sucks!
I should also say I was a regular Godaddy customer for more than 15 years.

I miss Dan for this exact reason. Full control of the negations unless you personally choose to include a broker. Good times.

of course u expect too much those guys take days and weeks to negotiate etc. last time I waited 1 month to complete. only to sell at initial buyer price.

if u want faster accept firstoffer. which to many if 5fig is fine. but again that's no guarantee of speedy end. otherwise use different lander to have more control

also remember brokers work to get lowest price for buyer.. not most for u

From the sounds of it, the only real workable way to use AN/GD is to list your names with a BIN price around 30% higher than anywhere else and use a different lander that allows you to communicate directly with the buyer (NP, Atom etc).

Using GD/AN landers is counter productive and trying to negotiate a sale through them is basically impossible.

From my own experience in the last year or so, using a GD/AN lander offers nothing by way of a trust element as far as buyers are concerned. The only positive GD/AN can offer you is there registry path/fast transfer reach but even that is touch and go and you don't need to be using their landers for that.

Out of hundreds of leads, I only had two sales through the lead center. Those sales would happen anyway though, as both end users wanted the names badly and used them directly to upgrade. It's really a waste of time. Maybe some guys have a different experience, but the lead center doesn't work for me and my names. All my sales have been registry path/ FT

I’ve had issues with GoDaddy's slow response times, which can and has ruined deals for me. Their super high commissions don’t seem worth it either. I’d suggest using buy-it-now pricing to make things easier and switching to personal landers for better control and faster replies.

i have accepted the first offer many times and have passed on some as well.
it all depends on the variables, like:
the current offer, how many previous offers, hold time, etc as well as the name itself.

the first offer may be the only offer or the highest amount ever offered, that you'll get for a particular name,
but you won't know that, until you pass on this offer and wait for the next.

still, i think by expecting too much,
then that leads to being more frustrated when the expectations aren't met.

so, use jedi mind trick on yourself and expect them to f78k up the deal
then if they don't, you'll be happily surprised,

1) Don't trust the lead center. They rarely report interactions that matter and the interactions that are reported are often wrong.
2) GoDaddy / Afternic has has a lot of issues on both the customer and the domain owner side. If you can, use alternatives.
3) Sheesh, have some patience. It's like a girl texted you "hey" and then you called and texted her 30 times. It's also in their best interest to get this sold, so despite the clogged up system, the lazy brokers, when action is needed - they will contact you. No one likes waiting, but clogging up the system further with 30 inquiries of the same thing won't help.

I fully understand what you say, and in many situations it is 100% true.
But when you want to buy a domain yourself, do you normally offer your maximum at the very beginning?.
Maybe in some situations people do that, but in most cases they do not.
And if you do your maximum at the beginning, still most sellers will assume that you can pay more so you are just making it more difficult for yourself...
