I received an inquiry and offer through a Sedo broker, but I’m not sure how to proceed. Here’s the situation:

I informed the Sedo broker that the Buy It Now price for the domain is $49,888, and mentioned that it is also listed on Afternic at the same price.

The broker then responded, stating that the domain was sold two weeks ago for $800 on DropCatch and that their client is now offering $1,500 for it.

So far, I have not responded to the broker.

Can anyone suggest how I should reply to them in this situation?

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It doesn’t matter how much you paid for it. You already told broker the asking price.

Is this through their platform or via email?

Could be a domain investor buyer

The price is the price. Doesn't matter what you bought it for, only what you're selling it for.

If their initial offer was anywhere near the asking price it would be worth haggling but as they're so far off I wouldn't be to concerned with it.

true
well my point was the broker is real bad and goes low if he reminds seller what he paid for name.

that's why I made distinction who may have resorted to such low tactic.. buyer or broker

but your right seller cant replace buyers broker lol

still he can give him shit for it hahah

Has this happened before, or is it possible that the broker buys from me at a low price and then sells it to the end user at a higher price?

No, he is probably working for a buyer

By the way , decide a price slightly above your desired price and tell the broker.
The fact you bought it for 800$ , it’s not of his business

Hi

the broker/buyer is obviously knowledgeable about dc names closing sales
and as part of that, they can mention their knowledge of what that name sold for... in respect to what seller is asking for it.

imo...

Hi

actually, it's everybody's business that knows/follows what names sold and for what price.

sure, we all have the right to price names as we see fit....
however, since OP didn't mention the name, then how can you know if it's worth what he's asking?

i would think it's another domainer who's offering seller a chance to make a quick flip or a long wait.

imo...

I’m curious about others’ experiences in situations where a prospective buyer references publicly available records of the purchase price. How have you responded in such cases?

"Thank you for reaching out and following up, I appreciate you working with the client. Please feel free to reach out if the client makes a offer that is worthy of consideration for both you and me. I'm happy to consider offers that are serious and close to the BIN price. Have a great day!"

FYI, $50k is a deal considering the risk involved, % of annual sales and cost of inventory holding.

The timing probably suggests that it is another domainer , but hiring a Sedo broker seems odd to me.

What the domain is worth depends on who is buying it.
If it’s a domain investor , it merely depends on if you are looking for a quick flip.
But why spend 800$ on domain just to sell it for 1500$ when you already got an offer in 3 days !?
If it’s an end user , he couldn’t care less what it sold for on dropcatch.

Estimating. If they bought it in an auction for $800, there's most likely a demand for it. Most of the domains that sell on secondary markets (except dropcatch, as that one is just run by newbies who bid crazy for anything) are starting to get into a premium range that's sought out for, IMO it's a good estimate that it's worth more (atleast for me). I'm pricing it by what i've seen others price their domains and what i'll price it after purchasing at similar prices.

if the buyer is a domainer, the domainer can contact directly through which contract. There is no need for a broker.

My main concern is that the broker firstly mentioned the domain was sold for $800 just two weeks ago. However, this was stated without any negotiation.
Later, after some negotiation, when I refused to lower the price, the broker repeated this information.
This is what I don’t understand.

If you need the money, you can negotiate. However, if you lower your price from $50K to $10K, then this approach may not be wise, indicating that the asset was not priced correctly from the beginning.

If is all legit the inq. ok not broker business how much sold or acquire in past
If the buyer want to pay your price ( 49k or less ) ok if not you must wait for the right buyer

With the broker behaving like a jerk, I'm not sure why you'd even want to respond to his low-brow inquiry.

Unless you actually want to sell it for $1500 (and lose a pile of money in "domain math" terms) just delete the email and move on.

His first inquiry was this ()

after I reply him with bin then he replied with offer.

be sure to tell broker in your last offer that he should get a new job where negotiating is not involved.

because he sucks at it.
