4 letter com sell? Advice needed

I have just had an email about a 4 letter com I registered as an investment { at this stage i have no plans for development.

I just had someone email me
" Dear ****.com,

We are interested in obtaining this domain name, Would you consider selling it and if so for how much in US dollars?
"

There email address is the ****.net

How do I reply. I would sell the name but dont know how much to ask??

In all honesty, your going to have to do a littel research about the domain nane. How old is it, what kind of business is interested in buying it, what are you willing to part with it for?

Theres quite a bit, but it sounds like you found the end-user. The thing to do is figure out how badly this person wants the domain name and go from there.

maybe it does sound too good to be true.
end users are usually more careful and use a free email address.

using the net of the name is too much of a give away.


in 2005 it had what looks to have been a forum and there is still 3 sites linking to the name.

But i have a feelign that the old site has nothing to do with my email.

I checked the whois and the net is registered for 10 years.

it ws registered in nov 06.

still it is a good news, you should follow up, but be careful.

If the letter writer is something something PhD,
if domain investing is "not their normal business"
.....then it is a well known scam, they would ask you to get the name appraised by a company of their choice (for $$$) and take that money and run.

Otherwise it could be for real.

No I dont think it is an appraisal scam. I have had heaps of those emails.
You can sort of smell them after a while.

The net had a placeholder sort of thing on it this morning, which has now disappeared.
