What are you opinions on the value of 2K8.org ...







in 2008 , there are ...

the 2008 US Presidential Elections ...

the Beijing 2008 Olympics ...

the UEFA EURO 2008 (Austria - Switzerland)

possibly many more events ...







2K8 or 2k8 is a very trendy and recognizable way to express 2008 ...
the length is only 3 characters long which makes it rather rare and valuable ...
the TLD is .org making it very appropriate for many different types of websites ...
also , since it is a very generic term , there are no trademark issues whatsoever ...
the reason that made me start considering offers this early , is this article (source: The Hill , found by a link in DomainDevelopers.com)

as time passes towards 2008 , the value of this domain could increase exponentially ...






I also own 2K8.biz ...

Well, its a three character .org which is pretty decent (I'd say around $20) but the fact is, domains should not be time dependent. Websites revolving around a specified date will only have visitors during that time and most people (including me, as a webmaster) would not spend the money on such a domaoin. In fact, if anything I would buy a domain like 2008olympics.com (for example) which is more specific to my site's needs (about the 2008 olympics, for example).

the difference with 2K8.org is that many different big events are happening that year ... and it could be utilized from maybe a year before until sometime after (or as an archive for longer) the event or events ... I am saying events because someone could use it with subdomains for many different events (on the basis that he acquires authorizations or/and licences) ... eg. Elections.2K8 , Olympics.2K8 , UEFA.2K8 , etc ...




also the .org extension makes it a very good domain especially for a presidential candidate site (especially towards young people) or an elections' information site ... in the link to TheHill (in the original post) did you see how many are .orgs ?

in the same link did you check the prices for some of those domains ?

supposing that a presidential candidate wanted this domain for his campaign (or for a second site towards younger voters) , how much money do you think he would spend for it ?




lastly , one more good thing about it is that as a generic it does not have any trademark issues (or a need for a licence) if used on its own , like 2008Olympics would have ...

this domain is somehow like a stock ... like most domains are ... the present value is lower than the future (expected) value ... future events might rise the future value even further ...




the trick is to find a buyer whose expected future value (or potential usage) is higher than your expected future value ... and agree on a price in between ... that way you both make a profit ... eg. you think it will worth $10,000 in a year while another person thinks it will worth $20,000 ... you sell it to him for $15,000 ... and you both make $5,000 ... of course there are also other parameters that play a part ...




even though the value of this domain might seem low right now ... it is the expected value for it in a year's time that would actually set the selling price ... especially since keeping it until the price will logically increase is of very low cost ($8) ...
