2008.INFO

very nice domain for 2008

2008 events :

Summer Olympics Beijing 2008

US Presidential Elections 2008

EURO 2008 Austria-Switzerland

80th Academy Awards (Oscars)

50th Grammy Awards

... various other events ...

it was first registered on 16/08/2001

it was sold on January 2007 for $401 (source: DNSalePrice)

it was resold on June 2007 on SEDO for $608 (source: DNSalePrice)

I bought it in December 2007

how much do you think it's worth ?

should I flip it for $2008-$3000 ?

or should I wait for a bigger-buyer/end-user and sell it for $5000 or $5000+ ?

very nice for a site with polls/stats about the US elections ...
or a site of a presidential candidate with info about his/her campaign ...

Jeff - so far it's going ok ... or is that was going ok ???

today , because of downtime , SEDO postponed the auction 517 mins from noon/afternoon US time to Friday after midnight US time ... :'( ... I think the buyer is gonna grab a bargain :bah:

Sounds like you're doing better than OK ... :yell:
If your total acquisition cost was only $270, you'll be living large with a confirmed sale at $3,000 (minus Sedo fees), IMHO. :music:

Best of Luck.

you know there is always the thought about having kept it a couple of months so that the Olympics come or the US elections come near (especially the way the .info might grow during the year)

but that's ok ...

I think it will end up in a good price for both me and the buyer ... [whispering] supposing not all americans or europeans are clubbing/sleeping at end time lol [/whispering]

Wouldn't this be a perfect name to put up for auction? (Either live or online)

Instead of chasing the buyers, have them come to you...

There are quite a few auctions going on these days.

Worth a try, no?

I see now. Already on Sedo...

Sedo:
2008.info | Bidding History
Winning Bid: 3,100 USD
Reserve met!
Winning Bidder: Bidder 2

Congrats, do you know who the Buyer is? :gl:

yeah it sold for $3100 ... I think as .infos are right now and this early in the year (in comparison to the Olympics and the US elections) it is a fair price both for me and the buyer ...

don't know who the buyer is but I hope it will be ok ...

I am waiting for the "buyer sent funds" email from SEDO to do the transfer ... I will update again after I receive the money in my bank account ... at which point the sale and "appraisal" will be certain

Agreed (esp. at this apparent price range), IMHO.

PM replied, as well ... and look forward to the details, once completed etc! :gl: :talk:
Congrats!

I think the price is a rather fair one for the domain at this time of the year ... it could rise in value significantly as the EURO/Olympics/US-elections come closer (or if the .infos continue to rise in value as they did last year)

hope it goes well ...

How are things proceeding with Sedo™ escrow ... for 2008.info (Winning Bid: $3,100 USD)? :gl:

Thanks for the update.

hey Jeff ...

no news yet ... it sold Friday midnight ... supposing that the buyer initiated a wire transfer at some point at the beginning of the week , since banks don't work on weekends (PayPal does not seem to have been the method of payment) ... I am expecting the email from SEDO either today or some time next week ... wire tranfers usually take 2-3 days in the same locale (read: "continent") or up to a week "intercontinentally" (and SEDO "does not work" on weekends) ... and that is if the buyer decided to make the payment at the beginning of the week and not later on ...

anyways , I will update the thread when I have good news or bad news (hopefully the former) both for appraisal and sale comparison purposes ...

:hi:

Any update to the Sedo escrow and "sales" status ... here with 2008.info?

Thanks.

hi Jeff ,

unfortunately , no payment yet ... the auction ended Friday the 18th of Jan ... after the weekend-Monday-Tuesday , I thought that maybe it's a wire transfer payment (not PayPal) ... so I thought I should wait until the 10 business days max that SEDO says it recommends for payments ... today is the 13th business day (and close to 3 weeks) from the auction so I decided to wait until this Friday for payment and then on Monday cancel the transaction (most SEDO transfer agents don't "work" on weekends) , since it was probably just a deadbeat buyer ... I emailed my agent on the 8th business day and he told me he emailed the buyer again and to be patient blah blah blah

anyways , it seems that the talk about elections has been heating up (esp on this Super Tuesday) and I think one of the best usages for the domain is in connection with the US elections , therefore I think the domain can be sold for a similar amount ...

I am now thinking (supposing that the buyer does not appear until Friday) to auction the domain on eBay ... either start it at $2008 and see where it goes ... or put a $4000 BIN (for "high-spenders") with best-offer on it mentioning that an offer around $2800-3200 will probably get it ...

anyways , I will see how it goes ...

Yeah, I guess ... seems very troubling news again out of Sedo, IMHO. :guilty: :'(

I don't think it is SEDO's fault , just the buyer did not pay ...

unless you mean that SEDO should try to make the marketplace a little safer for sellers ... eg. by charging a 10-20% deposit to the buyer's CC when there is an agreement (agreement in negotiations or end of an auction) ... the amount would be split between the seller and SEDO if the buyer doess not pay the outstanding balance in say 10 business days ... I am sure that that way most transactions would get completed (and faster)

otoh it might make transactions more complex and/or hinder bidding ... well anyways , this issue is a rather large and complex one ...

Not really ... Sedo simply needs to step up and be proactive against non-paying bidders, "sales" that never actually complete, etc. as it's fraudulent activity IMHO. :!:

Good Luck should you decide to re-auction it, as well.

I meant the issue of charging CCs while the buyer has not authorized a charge at that exact moment is a rather complex one ... eg. if the above 10-20% rule existed there should be some clear ToS to support it ... ie. to make a charge on the CC when the auction ends and while the buyer is not in front of his PC ...

anyways , I agree ... SEDO should step up on the non-paying buyers issue ... every sale on SEDO is a "long breath" from the "sold" untill the "buyer has made payment" emails , while on a well-organized marketplace there should be less uncertainty imo ...

^ Agreed. :yell: :snaphappy:

In the meantime, unfortunately ... this domain name loses value daily (as I stated at the outset) IMHO. :gl:

TAKE THE OFFER!! January is almost over already

Exactly, as sending a real offer of $3,000 here to auction is not prudent! :red: :imho:
