06/01/2008 - Every significant Internet provider around the globe is currently in talks with access and content providers to transform the internet into a television-like medium: no more freedom, you pay for a small commercial package of sites you can visit and you'll have to pay for seperate subscriptions for every site that's not in the package.

I have listened to the presentation. One fellow states the they have had high level people from certain isps contacting them and giving them inside information. That is really difficult for me to believe. Guess it's time to sell all my domain names because if this is true they will no longer have any value

There is a few ways we can avoid this:

1) Go to the internet provider, if any, that provides the original internet.

2) Boycott the internet

3) Create your own internet

hehe Just kidding around, I doubt this will ever happen.

That would be a pretty good reason if the US wanted to start WWIII - the internet is global - these corporations do not benefit the world.

We had a paid internet...it was called AOL.

Hackers will get around it :D

the only time it will end is when you forget to pay the phone and internet bills.

Google would become a god.. You really think something like that could happen? Major internet players would never even dare do that.. They would lose more then they would win, therefor supporting free zone.. Internet will always remain free (paid bills) not packages.

Okay quick! Call the calvary! Start the stampedes! SMS Al Gore and tell him to stop worrying about that Global Warming scam and tell him that companies are about to hijack his creation! ;)

this is just a sham to drive traffic to the ipower site - i went myself! - but it does remind us as domainers that we need to consider macro trends that will change the way the internet works and is used.

imagine if the next Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers allowed the same technology dot worlds uses!!!

Although net neutrality is a very important issue, there is no way in hell this will ever happen. Whether intentional or not, this video is a joke.

The reason people come to the net is because of the vast diversity of websites (i.e. information) available to anyone who logs on. There are entire governmental and corporate infrastructures whose day to day functioning depends on unfettered internet access. If access to everything but the most popular sites was taken away by the biggest ISPs, their business models would evaporate as individuals and businesses jumped ship in the millions to sign up with whichever small ISP offered complete access. Even if all the smaller ISPs were somehow "overpowered" or bought up, all it would take is a few defectors with deep pockets (e.g. Google or Virgin) to create their own "all-access included" internet services and the entire scheme would quickly fall apart.

I'm not familiar with the people who made this video, but I'd guess they are trying to achieve meme status by pretending to have inside info on some huge conspiracy.
