Well the site is very lackluster but very functional and informative which is the most important part of any website. Some things that are missing in this aspect, is a nice about page and probably a disclaimer page although I don't think that last one is necessary.
Also a marker to indicate which page your on would be nice. I clicked on the first link in the navigation, to read some of the info you had, just to realize I was already at that page but to add to my confusion the second page has the same beginning paragraph as the first two pages (with the first page). I thought -at first- that you had placed the same info on all the pages but then I looked at both pages just to be sure and realized that this was not the case.
One thing that needs adjustments is the poll on the bottom left hand side. Besides not being functional its too close to the border. I would probably center it.
I would also like to add that you shouldn't abbreviate the copyright years, like you did. It doesn't look very professional. Instead go with the whole year or at the very least a two digit abbreviation.
As for the aesthetic I would place have placed the shadow all around the border of the layout. It makes it pop out more. I'm not liking the banner (and for some reason I want it to look sort of warped...) but I love the tagline. I also dislike the navigations look but there isn't really anything wrong with it, it's most likely just me.

I'm not liking this page much. The bookmark us button looks out-of-place. I feel the page need a defined area to contain the information. It just doesn't look right without it. Keep the statistics in it's own little box (as it is currently). I think the page name needs a tagline or more to the name. I mean you have this great little box with some cool, unique info (the latest update part is a great plus too) but no one can tell by looking at the name "High Mountains".
I don't mind the navigation but if you are going to add more to it you might want to consider a more contain one.
