$125 Sedo offer... What to do!?!

I've just received a $125 offer for AreaSexOffenders.com on Sedo. I also have AreaSexOffender.com which I'd like to include with the name. I was planning on developing a site with city subdomains as in, NewYork.AreaSexOffenders.com or Orlando.AreaSexOffenders.com but (of course) haven't had the spare time.

Which way should I go with this? Send to auction? I'm not so sure that it would bring in higher bids. Counter-offer? $125 isn't very much, but I'm not sure how much I should counter offer. I'm currently in the hole $300-$350 right now for Christmas gifts, but I dont want to scare a potential buyer away by countering too much in my desperation.

Opinions?

Hmm, Maybe make $300 as your counter offer

i think only an end user would want to buy this name. i would counter with at least 1k and leave a comment saying you will include both names.

i agree, i cant imagine anyone but an end user wanting to buy this domain. and this is becoming a very popular issue these days, so I think it's definitely worth more than $125. Definitely worth more than $300 for both.

Thanks guys! Rep left for everyone. I will counter at $750 and see what happens... I'm don't want to scare them off with $1000. I will let you know what happens! :)

Buyerยดs Offer: 150 USD
The other party has made the following comment with this offer:
Hi, 150 is the top of my budget. Thanks.

Any opinions on how I should proceed?

Sidenote: Sedo has changed their comment system. My comment and his have shown up immediately. Hard to believe it finally sunk in at Sedo. Me and several others on NP have been bitching about this for quite a while!

Good luck with the sale... Hope all goes well.
I'm interested that you didnt have a price range in mind when you listed the domain. I think its important, though I admit difficult, to know in your own mind what you perceive as the selling price for your item. I think people dont clearly do this because of the "what if I estimate it and I'm low..." types of thoughts. I'm not saying that you have to go public with your estimate, but it gives you a starting point in the process. The obvious exception is where you categorically say "For Sale....$99", or whatever price you've put on the item. This may be negotiable or not, but its clearly setting a maximum.

What will the fee be if you sell for $150?

What I do in a situation like this is tell the potential buyer that I will accept the $150 (If I really want to sell for that amount) if he also kicks in the amount of the Sedo fee... So if Sedo wants $100 sell for $250...

It might be "risky" but you are only looking at $150 or so, and it seems like you would sell for that amount? Not counting the fees? Just a guess on my part...

last time I sold a $100, they took $50 from me, it was 50% profit for them!

they only charge 10% I think they used to take a 50.00 minimum if it wasn't parked there, but I think they did away with that, though I could be wrong.

Well I think you need to ask yourself if you'd be comfortable with it selling at $150... If so, send it to auction and hope for the best :)

I have too many domain to set individual prices on every one, but I do have minimums in mind for my premiums and a few others that are dear to my heart. I generally don't sell any name for less than $300 unless the buyer convinces me that they can't go any higher and they plan to develop the name. I think this is a good domain and worth at least $300-$500 to the right end-user (probably more), but I'm in need of money right now so I'm being careful to try and get as much as possible.

The fee would be 10% ($15). I guess Paypal would be an additional 3% if I'm not mistaken. Good idea, I think I'll take your advice. Thanks!

I guess I could send it to auction, but the bidder would probably be pissed off about that (I know I would). If the auction ended with just his bid, he might not be motivated to pay me.

Rep left for everyone! Thanks!

I thought Sedo took steps to crack down on buyers who don't pay? I know they instituted verification for buyers, I have a selling account, but can't be a buyer unless I go through a whole process :) Kind of ironic considering I got shafted in the past by a buyer who never paid.

I don't really know what the verification process entails though or what it entitles Sedo to do. They should require a bank account or credit card on record and if payment is not made, charge it... But I'm sure there would still be some issues.

I think sedo charges 10% but with a $50 minimum still. So if you sell for $150 they will keep $50 and you get $100. Just because someone offers $125 doesnt mean they are only willing to buy it near that amount. Usually if I buy a name on sedo from someone even if I am willing to pay $xx,xxx I will almost always start with a lowball offer like that for $100-$300 just to see what kind of counter I get first, especially when it isnt a super generic name.

We settled on $170. Sedo is taking 10% ($17) of that. I ended up with $153. Not too shabby! :)

Not bad :)

If you park your domain there, the fee is 10% with no minumum ie sell a domain for $100 and they'll only take $10; $50 would be $5 etc. That's good considering my domain in auction might only fetch $90 lol
