Looks like one.com has reactivated this promo from last year (.com only):

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

If you read the terms and conditions, there is a limit of 10 Domains on offer.
But apparently they are checking them manually.
The first time this offer was available, I managed to register more than 200 Domains, by the time they told me this limit exists.
Later I created a second account for another company I own, and I managed to register 50 Domains before the limit was activated.

Overall, there isn’t complete randomness on this registrar…

Do you mean that if you register a domain, this is not done instantly through the system and they have to do it manually the next day or something? Which means someone else might register the name in the meantime..

they canceled my domain (.biz) transfer to them it was a few years ago. Got responded - "promotion isn't valid", later received refund minus fees. Suspicious company.

Yes you shouldn't.

Many times they are registering your new domains manually, hours after you are giving the order.
You may receive an email 2 days later that something failed.
In the meantime, the domains may not be available anymore...

Also, some times they are coping owners data from your former registrar, while the domain is under privacy protection.
So your domain's owner's email may be something like "[email protected]".
And to change owner's email you have to send them pdf files, filed and signed + Passport, to that you claim you are the owner...

Also they have no bulk function, or domain lock function, and their live chat is the worst

Not domainer friendly, not worth the hassle.

They are great for hosting a enterprise business but not as a registrar, it is not domainer friendly.
The renewal is based on a plan related hosting and not based on domain renewal.
So after you transfer a domain to them, that date will take priority for next renewal, at higher price.
I not like to use registrars as a safe boat but I had to do it, for some expensive extensions, of course I m ashamed that I did it, but who knows maybe they get such low prices from registry itself, then cap it on next renewal.
Edit: almost forgot, to be able to forward a domain you must upgrade your free plan! To edit NS they will send an email to registrant contacts, for confirmation, and if you did not turn Privacy off before transfer you will not get that email, but somewhere else, to correct this they will ask evidence of domain ownership from previous registrar plus some ID card or passport.

Now the price has increased to $4.99

If two or more domains are added to the cart at once, the price will be $3.49 for each domain

Perhaps with the transfer of two or more domains the price will also decrease, I haven’t checked.

They sometimes add 30% discount if you register/transfer 2 or more domains.
This is happening only in some specific tlds.
Don't ask which ones, that is random as everything else...

Here is my experience:

Transfered some Domains to One.com with help of support and also cancelled one order because domains were in redemption period, They cancelled my order and sent refund instantly. Do not abuse their promo with creating multiple accounts. For Sign process they help me to get digital sign which is very easy.

They do not have bulk nameserver change option, You have to change one by one also nameserver will be changed to one.com default after transfer. I got auth code in just one click.

Worth a try for names you are 50% sure of renewal.

Regards

What happens when you have to renew the domain or transfer it to another company? I am being charged $34 for the renewal with a hosting company. I transferred the domain but the service cannot be cancelled, meaning I have to pay them even if I don't take the service?

You have to cancel the renewal, there is a way in settings, if they charged you but you transfer it away, try chat them and ask why you were charged for something you did not used, they can refund you.
Also from now on everyone, before doing anything with One com think trice not just twice. This company is a trap!
