this is bizarre... i thought one digit of either letters or numbers were prohibited in .com

Yet when you type in www . 0 . com or www . 1 . com they are directed to a sedo parking page!

can anyone explain this? - does verisign just point such names to parking pages and profit from them?

You are probably using an idn. 0.com & 1.com are held by verisign.

x.com was actually a great service similar to paypal...I had an account with them. Paypal bought them out.

Any single character.coms that expire can't be renewed but they do exist.

Some browsers send you to the first page of search results for the term you entered if the website is not found. Maybe that's what's going on.

It will become a restricted domain assuming PayPal does not renew it (unlikely).

I thought all domainers knew that two character .com domains could not be re-registered. This is 101 type of stuff. They can resemble state and country codes, therefore not allowed to register anymore.
