The Corporation Service Company® (CSC®) is a worldwide leader for business, legal, and financial services. Regularly they publish their CSC® New gTLD Utilization Report. See their last report of September 2016.
They came up with the so-called New gTLD Indicator: In order to assess a new gTLD’s relative penetration of the Alexa 1M, they developed a simple ratio which compares the number of domains for the TLD in the Alexa 1M with the registration volume for the TLD. They then indexed the ratio against .com (assigned a score of 100), which is currently the most globally utilized TLD.
Using this indicator, they created their CSC ALTERNATIVE TOP 10, which considers Alexa rankings alongside the TLD’s registration volume. In their last report of September 2016 .Online shines in sixth place with a Registration Volume of 390,902, a Number of Domains in Alexa 1M of 1082, and a New gTLD Indicator of 73.
Among the Top 10 TLDs by registration volume, .Online had the highest New gTLD Indicator score (73) followed by .Site with an indicator score of 38. Whereas .Xyz had an indicator score of 13, .top of 7, .Wang of 1, .Win of 3, .Club of 37, .Vip of 2, .Link of 19 and .Bid of 6.
It is also interesting to note that four (.top, .win, .link, and .bid) out of the Top 10 TLDs by registration volume are also flagged by ntldstats.com/fraud as being the Top Suspicious TLDs with the highest number of domains potentially implicated with fraud.
With these scores .Online seems to be by far the most promising nGTLD. Good to know.
