Has anyone used undeveloped.com to sell domains? They claim to be able to increase a domainers sales by 54%.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Why? Because our research showed 80% of all transactions go bust because buyers can't afford your names.

Goes to show that many domainers are striving too high!

@Undeveloped - I have a recommendation for your landers, but it is a very small one. I wonder if the mention of VAT to customers - in countries without one and it is not applicable - may be a little off-putting since some don't know what a VAT is. My thought is based off the seller's country and the buyer's IP you could easily display, or not display, the mention of VAT. (this applies to buy it now and make offer)

Also you may want to default the country in the billing information form based off of IP geolocation. I assume most of your buyers are outside of the Netherlands.

Just from my experience in the past things like mention of a VAT, and then a customer seeing Netherlands being the default - they may start wondering what a VAT is and how much it would be - before filling out the form. (without noticing the $0 Vat on the previous page.) The billing page mentions VAT again even if not applicable. There is just the slightest chance someone might close the form if it was an impulse buy that could walk away.

Otherwise I see a lot of nice improvements since I last used Undeveloped for my landers. I believe I will be moving them back in the coming days. The VAT thing was just a thought I had when looking.

For me to forward my names to a platform it has to add value beyond a nice lander.

I went to home page of undeveloped as a potential buyer and typed "fashion". After 20 minutes, it is still "loading". Retried few times.

Oddly - Other searches seem to be working that I tried, but you are right... "Fashion" hangs.

Seems there is a bug of some kind @Undeveloped

Hi Michael,

Good point, it's actually on our roadmap to tackle this. The VAT is calculated based on the sellers location, situation (business or non-business seller) and the IP of the buyer. So most of the time buyers will see a 0% VAT indicator in some local markets buyers will see the appropriate VAT included. Besides the legal requirement of doing this there's also a relevant conversion topic involved as you should never surprise the buyer with added expenses at check out. So adding VAT in the final step was a conversion killer.

Since we adopted the above model we have seen less people drop off in the check-out flow.

Having said that, there are plans to make this item clearer and more intelligent.

Thanks,
Reza

What are the ods. We use a very advanced search engine backend for search (Sphinx) and today there was a big update on their end. Roy our CTO just fixed the issue and deployed it so search functions good again.

Thanks for noticing the issue today so we didn't have to find out by conversion drops from search!

Thanks,

Reza

@Undeveloped

Just noticed one more recommendation that may help with conversations...

I would definitely add the visa/mastercard/paypal/etc icons under or near the safe payment by Ayden or near your "Action" button. (buy now and make offer). It gives customers more confidence going into the billing form knowing what payment types are accepted. "Safe Payments By Ayden" may make people think they have to open an "Ayden Account" and freak out and not submit offer or click buy now.

I hate to say it but I always try to assume that the customer may not be the brightest lightbulb in the box when assembling a checkout/call to action page. 90% may have no problem, but you still want to try to appease the remaining 10% and sale to them.

Once again just thoughts... If you have an email address that you would like me to send anything further I run across feel free to provide here or PM. If you would not like further comments I can oblige in that too. :xf.wink:

Yeah, what are the odds )

Ok, so since it is fixed, I went to undeveloped to test again.

First thing, since your search first looks for exact word and gave me crappy extensions I decided to choose .com right away, but it turns out choosing extension on home page is not option. So ok, I do one extra step and choose it on next one.

Then I get .coms with "fashion" inside.

Could you explain what is the logic behind the sorting in the screenshot below? Just random?? Why? Shouldn't you give better exposure to the ones that would have better chance of selling?

I'd like to request some major changes to the Dashboard/Portfolio page, specifically around reporting. Right now, there is no way to change the duration of the report, no filtering and no granularity in the reporting. Can we get more details around the traffic, source, referrer etc for the visits to the landing pages?

Thanks

I'd love to see them implement something like Bodis has - Google Analytics integration. Its really nice to see where my traffic is coming from and potentially the leads who are visiting my names.

I'd second that. You should use the landing page that converts best since adding your portfolio to multiple marketplaces is possible and allowed by all marketplace.

So distribute your inventory across as many as marketplace you can find but park with the one that adds most value for your portfolio.

Search is indeed back to normal but not perfect ;). Obviously we don't show random results. There's an algorithm in place per query that looks to multiple pointers. Even items like number of bids or visits can for some queries influence the ranking of domains.

Currently we don't have a bias towards extensions, however we might do that by implementing weights per extension. A lot of buyers search for two keywords so we now try to deliver the best fit in both the keywords in the domain as the extension.

Hi Mike,

You can always email me at [email protected]. The way I see it, users that care give feedback so anyone that happily shares feedback about Undeveloped is a friend ;).

We base every decision we make on our landers on either quantitative or qualitative data. Our UX designer actually views hundreds of user recordings to find out what buyers actually do when they interact with our service.

A while ago the recordings showed us that the check-out process was not clear, just 4 weeks ago we completely revamped that section based on the findings.

Same goes for the content on the lander. We currently display the payment options you mention when the buyer hits the "learn more" button. In essence, every single detail on that page is designed carefully and the strategy is to provide all critical information in one view, all secondary information as a pop-up when people request that info. So far we see literally zero customer support requests or calls from buyers asking about the payment sources we offer so we assume for now the current model works.

Thanks,
Reza

That section will change sooner than you think actually. There will be an "analytics" section soon that gives you insight about your portfolio performance.

Unfortunately, because we use GA ourselves we can't add another tracker on those pages.

Hi, I am Glad to see there is new platform for domainers to sell names.
Can you please clarify few things.
1. Commission %?
2. Can I do a listing without changing DNS to your landers?
3. Any special deals for big portfolios?
4. How to get featured in search and home page?

Landers got changed it now says this domain is for sale. This is good!

This is what I have been waiting for...although many of my names are listed there, this is the 'glitch' I was waiting on to be adjusted before changing nameservers...not a big deal I know but this was my point of 'know return'. (sorry for the Kansas reference).

Not sure if they have done away with the 50 percent rule or not...if so that is great, if not I guess I will have to point 51 percent of my names to afternic (the payment option is what I am after with UnD).

Hi Ksusha,

Here you go:

1: 15%

2: Yes for sure, but keep in mind that our main value added is our advanced and fully customizable for sales page.

3: Depends on the volume and how many names you park with us. Feel free to shoot me an email: [email protected] to discuss.

4: You can always submit high-quality names to be featured.

Take care,

Reza

Hey,

We removed the 50% rule two days ago. The reason why we had that rule was to incentivize sellers to set up a proper test sample when they test our landers. We've seen sellers pointing for example 5% or 10% of their portfolio to our for sales pages, because of the low liquidity in the market that won't yield correct numbers, hence our 50% rule.

So you can now enable installments without having 50% parked with us but again I really advice you to at least pick 50% of your portfolio at random and park them with us for a month to benchmark the results.

Good luck!

Great news! This will be my weekend project...getting things set up. I'm a fan of epik, Rob and now undeveloped...looking forward to my first sale!

@Undeveloped What are you guys doing to curb bots traffic. Its inevitable but can be controlled. From my experience before switching to bodis, you guys were not doing anything to control bots visit. Can't imagine a situation where 99% of my traffic are bots. It makes no sense. Bodis will do everything possible to filter bot, with that you can accurately predict how your names are behaving. Am hoping to give you guys another chance if that could be checked curbed

@Undeveloped - I have 2 small recommendations on financing for you to consider:

1. Allow sellers to turn off financing by name if desired. This way on lower priced names we could turn financing off, and on higher priced names allow it. (or whatever method the seller chooses to decide if they want to allow financing on a name)

2. Add a small amount of interest into the financing for the seller (or let them decide %). Personally, if I am going to finance a name over 12 months I would prefer to earn more than if I were to sale it out-right.

Thanks,
Mike.

•••
Actually, I will also add a #3 on the financing subject.

Allow the # of months financed to be changed per domain. This way, for example, on a lower valued domain I could set the term to 4 months. There are other situations I could see wanting to change this as well.
