Yes.

Otherwise if it was 11:59pm it would be the end of the day instead of the beginning.

Let's say I create an auction and I say it will end on June 15.

If I continue to accept bids all day on June 15, then the true end time of my auction is June 16 at 12:00 AM. Yet I told people it ended June 15...

The end time/date is the point at which bids can no longer be submitted. If a specific time is not specified, then bids must no longer be accepted as soon as it is the end date.

Midnight is legitimately the end of one day and the start of the next.
This is why one must be specific, such as provide a less ambiguous time or more details.

Which timezone?

In the auction I referenced above, it was IST (Indian Standard Timezone).

This is all that was stated in regards to end time:

End- 28may2017 (IST)/this sunday

Hello,

The following rule applies to default end times when one isn't specified:
6.2.5. Each domain and website auction must have the required information: domain, registrar, expiration date if rule 6.1.6 applies, starting bid (default: $1), bid increments (default: $1), specific end time (default: 72 hours after last bid), and payment options.
However, the seller in question did specify an end date, just not a time. There isn't currently clarification in the rules regarding situations like that. The moderator that handled the report more than likely went by their own time zone (by mistake) to determine who the winner was with the last bid before the clock turned to 12am.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and will bring this rule up with the management team to see if we can better clarify how to handle situations like this one.

Namepros official time.
It's worth noting that NamePros doesn't have an official time. The times that appear across the entire website are specific to your account's time zone setting, and the time that our moderators see may be different from yours. The time that is shown when logged out is defaulted to New York but we don't use it for anything auction related.

The rule has been updated as follows:
6.2.5. Each domain and website auction must have the required information: domain, registrar, expiration date if rule 6.1.6 applies, starting bid (default: $1), bid increments (default: $1), specific end date and time including the time zone or a relative end time (default: 72 hours after last bid), and payment options.

Hope that helps,

@Eric Lyon How would this update have effected the auction in question? Would it have defaulted to the 72 hour rule since no specific time was stated? So then the fact that the OP stated an end date of May 28 would have been irrelevant, and the auction could've gone on into June if people kept bidding?

No, the default is only used if the end time is omitted. If the end time is invalid, unclear, or anything else, then we will step in to get it corrected. Usually a friendly reminder to update it, pause the auction until then, extend the auction if necessary, or possibly close the auction without a winner, depending on the circumstances.

Hope that helps,

I see the issue now being time zone related . . . makes sense!

Personally I think allowing the two bidders to make a final "closed" bid should prevail in this matter. maybe NP should adopt an official time for cases like this where no time is given? Make all auctions EST, like New York!

I wouldn't want it to be clawed back at this time
If the deal's already complete, then it wouldn't be clawed back. "No winner" just gives the seller the control to do what they feel is best, but if the seller has already sold it, then they don't have the right to take it back.
