Godaddy's primary U.S. Datacenter went down around 12:25 pm central time. According to godaddy tech support they should have everything back up within the next 1 to 2 hours (Fingers crossed). They would not reveal the source or reason for the Datacenter crash, just that all servers within that datacenter are effected.

Hopefully they will get things sorted out sooner than later, but I do have faith that they are working diligently on rectifying this problem and getting everything back online.

In that case they should pause all on going auctions that would close in that time frame.

Godaddy is down. http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/godaddy.com reports "down" for me. YMMV as DNS servers may route someone else there and not me or someone else... Plus it may be fixed by the time anyone tries that link. For me its been down about 1 hour now.

Charming. They also took down a few of the older domain blocks. One has a very old server I've been in the middle of migrating OFF of.

Someone remind what purpose Anon serves?

I'll concede, GD should be prepared for this sort of crap. But, still . . . some of us have no choice but to deal with GD. I mean, how many domainers are there that don't have a GD account, right?

Godaddy is down along with hundreds of thousands of other websites.

The economy is already down the drain, this certainly helps all the businesses loosing money right now.

There's still no firm evidence to support Anonymous's claim that they are responsible for taking down the Registrar giant "Godaddy". It could be that they are taking credit just for the media exposure. I'm sure we'll know more as to whether or not they are the real culprits as things unravel and more information is released.

Update quote from a godaddy customer pointing at DNS as the source:

Steve Brogdon

Just switched my local DNS settings to OpenDNS: http://use.opendns.com/ I can now access my godaddy sites. Basically, this means that godaddy system is not down for everyone. Just depends on which DNS you are using and where you are connecting from. I will be switching back to my local ISP's DNS once godaddy network is recovered.

this means that some servers have cashed the godaddy DNS servers response from hours (or days ago). Godaddy DNS servers are likely still down for everyone.

Misleading title, they are experiencing a DDOS attack, it's not the same as being hacked.

Godaddy is taking responsibility because they don't want it known that they are vunerable to hacks.

It's obvious in their statement.

Sorry about all hosting their sites there.

But thats funny:

- Knock knock.
- Who's there?
- Any website hosted on Godaddy.
-Any website hosted on Godaddy, who?
<DNS lookup failed.>.

Real funny. My main business and millions around the globe are crippled at this point.

I do not see the humor and besides that, the joke sucks regardless.
