UD,
will you be instituting 24/7 telephone customer support and fraud for your site?
If not why not?
because you seem very adament about what a company SHOULD DO. So I am sure you will model it for "bad" companies like Name Cheap right?
no offense to all the "domainers" and others who are self employed and/or working from home
but when you move from self employed to business owner (office overhead, employees and payroll, 1000s of customers) its a whole different ballgame and many many issues that are not easily fit into a living room computer.
For any domain to say one would "pay" for more service is an outright lie -- the reason people (including UD) go to name cheap is because they are the CHEAPEST - period. AND STILL LOOK FOR COUPON CODES --7 bucks a year goes only so far guys --- seriously --- any employee in the USA is gonna cost more than that PER HOUR (if you don't know - employers have MORE than just the wage as an expense)
also an OFFER of 50k is not a CHECK for 50k - so unless the buyer sent you the money, then that domain is worth reg fee -- if that.
We know they didnt, because had they done that, a $100 chargeback from paypal wouldnt have been an issue.
How long have you been taking paypal? it takes a MAXIMUM of a week to verify an account (if you do it by mail!) Its not namecheaps fault you didnt put your account in order. Because I get those fraud things monthly, if not weekly - and all thats taken is the amount in dispute - not my entire account!
Give Name cheap a break - i think they handled it properly - an account that all of a sudden in the last 30 days goes from 10 bucks or less in registrations a month to $100 in a month worth of registrations and then a chargeback occurs -- Any BUSINESS OWNER in the same position would have done the same thing.
THe CEO himself came and tried to resolve it - ON THIS BOARD NOT OWNED BY NAMECHEAP -- I mean why was it even posted here, why did it have to be handled here? Why not with Name Cheap direct? because 12 hours was too little time to get an email response?
And then all of that with threats of people moving domains and lawsuits -- really???
where will you go? Go daddy? wait - you said they screwed you. hmmmm - so who? Network solutions?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
why did you pay with paypal and not a credit card in the first place? Why did YOU have to wait till monday to pay with credit card and not resolve your negative balance right away?
is it REALLY name cheaps fault for protecting their interests?
If anyone has ever been a victim of fraud, you also know, the scammers defend it till the end, KNOWING they are lying, you can only rely on facts, and NC didnt have many to go on.
Little account history, i mean the chargeback itself came from an UNVERIFIED paypal account -how could they NOT think it was fraud?
How is it that RJ knew what the problem was right away and you didnt? OR DID YOU??
You knew paypal took money from your account - so WHY DIDNT YOU notify NAMECHEAP -- why is the burden on them because of your financial issues?
If u had threatened me, while still having a remaining balance due - honestly - i would have said so long also -- because for a few dozen dollars of profit maximum u brought to them so far - Richard lost more money responding and trying to help (because TIME is valuable) than any amount $$ UD can threaten to give to another registrar. Or even a "lawsuit" - which we all know, wont happen.
Who can afford bigger attorneys? UD or NC? it may not be right, or even fair, but in civil matters like this, we all know the deepest pockets win.
I will be very intersted to see, should urbandata grow, if you maintain the "customer is right" saying. In the USA it used to be "the customer is ALWAYS right"
In this global market, where scams about, the customer is NOT right, but they are in charge, to the extent of their purchase.
TECHNICALLY you never purchased the domains - as NC never got paid for it.
UD and many others, obviously never dealt with a chargeback before - Let me tell you, they are the biggest pain you can have. At least with domains, its somewhat i ntangible - its worse on tangible goods, when the person gets the GOODS and keep the money and you get stuck with costs PLUS FEES.
After reading these 5 pages, its hard not to be frustrated on behalf of business owners. Especially since it seems every week there is new "drama" about how a certain "poor" someone - keeps getting taken advantage of.
I dunno, I don't register at namecheap - but after this - I MAY START!
Good job Richard, you went over and above, don't let anyone tell you different, especially when the issue was with 2 other entities (not your company) and your being blamed.
Keep doing a great job - many domainers prefer NameCheap - ask about them.
